  • 50 years since American car broke land speed record

Hey guys, it's coming up to 50 years since an American car broke the world land speed record: Oct. 23, 1970, Gary Gabelich drove The Blue Flame rocket car to a new record of 622 mph through the mile and 630 through the kilometer. I've made a three-part video series to commemorate this achievement. Here's Part One, on the Blue Flame's predecessor, the X-1, the world's first liquid fuel rocket dragster.

I've been reading Sam's books and articles since the 80's. He writes about HOT RODDERS who happen to chase land speed records in North American Zoomland.

Well, you're ALMOST right. Land Speed records are set at pretty much every meet. There are at least 1500 classes between the bikes and the cars and each of them have records. Now the ULTIMATE land speed record - that's a different issue!
