Following the thread about Garlits return I did some searching and came across this
about the other victim of Garlit?s tranny mishap.

The Garlits-drive trans that exploded that day was actually an underdrive unit with some pieces spinning in the neighborhood of 20k RPM inside of it.

Neat find Malc, Ditt's name is normally a trivia question answer for hard core drag geeks. Another, sadder name is that of Wayne Dye, the 8-year old boy that was killed in Dallas, Georgia when the Barracuda that Richard Petty was driving veered off the track and into the stands. 7 others were injured. That accident ended Petty's short stint drag racing after the Hemi was outlawed by NASCAR.
