Just saw on Freiberger IG that Marlan Davis tech editor for Hot Rod magazine passed away. Great writer I learned alot from all these years. RIP Marlan.

For awhile, Marlan was the best writer at Hot Rod.

I am very sorry to hear this news. Marlan's research was an impressive thing, his writing gave Hot Rod legitimacy that it at-times needed. I always thought that one thing the magazines' string of owners did right was keep his stuff in there through it all.

I had a few phone conversations with him in the early-eighties, he had offered to do a feature on my Vega but those days were turning into a bad time for me and I never got it together for that. He heard and contemplated every word, had memory for minor details, and seemed like a really nice guy. I believe he lived out at Neenach, a little town at the very west end of the Mojave desert, a world away from L.A. but close enough to hit the city and keep up with what was going on. A friend once told the story of a guy randomly flagging him down in the San Fernando Valley to check his car out and ask questions, he left his card, it was Marlan.

I remember he published the question of my oldest son Brock . It had something to do with getting a cable drive transmission to talk to a electric speedometer. I think it was called a pulse generator. He used it in his 92 RS camaro when we put some kind of old trans into it . R I P . Marland.
p.s hope he got the vette back together. The syclone was cool

So sorry to hear this. AS I've said before I guess us old-timers are getting to that age.

Sad to see he passed. He and Jon Kiewicz were the guys us Car Crafters really looked to for good info back in the 90's. They are now both gone.
