Landing in L.A. in 4 hrs .....Planned things are the Peterson Museum, Le Brea tar pit , Frank Lloyd Wright buildings , the house the was used for the outside shots of the Brady Bunch as well as the Beverly Hillbillies and the old movies star Barbara Stanwyck's mansion and trip across Mullholand Boulevard . Any body have anything else for ideas before hitting the Pacific Coast Highway and hitting Hearst
Castle and Carmel by the sea and maybe Clint Eastwood's restaurant there and then on up to San Francisco for Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge.

I hope you have reservations for Alcatraz. the last time I was there the list was almost 3 months long.
Be sure to go to In-N'-Out. The double-double animal style will fit your bill nicely for a modest $7 or so.

You scared me to death on the 3 month waiting list on Alcatraz. Doesn't appear that's the case now. How long ago was that ?

It's been several years now. The Japanese tourist industry found it and created an avalanche of visitors. Hopefully that was a temporary condition. I've been to the island 3 or 4 times over the past 20 years, but always find something I missed. Hope you get there.

You going to get the audio tour? Its been a LONG time since I have been there (it was a common activity when we had visitors) but they had a ticket where you got a walkman and headphones and could do your own pace tour

Giradelli's. Winchester house. Carmel by the Sea (especially the Boardwalk). If Leguna Seca is doing anything - that's a fun run too. If you're into wine, Napa Valley.

On the other side of the state, there's a bunch as well - such as Yosemite, Tahoe, Death Valley, countless popular and hidden ghost towns.

I'd add the Monterey Bay Aquarium to the list if you're going up the coast. We really liked Point Reyes north of SF and there's really good cheese in that area.

I think we'll do the audio tour . We've knock out everything in LA that we wanted to do. No offense to anyone that lives here but , there is just too many people and traffic for me . Fortunately I had Paula navigating with Google maps and all I had to do is drive. I will say that per the amount of car that people seem to drive pretty well.. The big shocker is that just about everywhere you go they charge you 20 and up to park . More later . Yes we plan on hitting that crazy ladies house,SBG . Were flying out of San Francisco a week from Sunday so we're doing great time wise. Biggest disappointment was not being able to really geat out and see the observatory because the were charging 10 bucks an hour to park a mile down hill from the place with the spots in the parking lot going for how's how much . I understand the problem is too many cars and people wanting to do the same thing....but while I could pay, I have my limits to what it's worth for me . If we had done the mile walk , I figure an hour each way and at least an hour up there . Nope . And the Barbara Stanwyck' house you can see really unless you come when they are giving tours Too many trees in the way. Later.

east bay - mothball fleet as you drive to Tahoe. Go north to almost Oregon and the Redwood forest... both of which will help you scale the people... I still believe Yosemite is America's best national park...

the people... yeah. I wouldn't go to Fisherman's Wharf because of the dirty people... but I've seen it, and I'd say you need to see it once.... but I have zero plans about going back

These were at the Peterson museum. I'm just so tired. Going to put the rest of the interesting shots from there up tomorrow.

From L.A. I would consider a trip up 101 to Monterey where I agree Laguna Seca may be worth a visit, but more to drive 17-mile road along the coast and the Pebble Beach golf (and seaside, and mansion) areas, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and have a walk and ocean-front dinner along Cannery Row which is their pretty-good effort at having a tourist experience that connects to the 1945 John Steinbeck novel which is no masterpiece but an amusing view. Drive around San Francisco to see the scenes alternately breath-taking and disgusting and you have walk the Golden Gate Bridge out and back which I've done a half-dozen times and would do a half-dozen again in any weather. Napa Valley may be worth visiting...once..., and definitely the Skunk Train in Fort Bragg, and Hwy 1 through the Redwoods.

California history is unique to the nation in the way it existed and was settled and developed, is much of the reason I stay here in spite of what the current political majority wants it to be (whoops no politics), and you'd want to read-up on everything you visited as much as possible.
