Ah - maybe. China hold 24% of our debt. Japan 20%. Imagine what might happen to the debt/economy if they decided to cash out? OPEC that everyone loves to hate - woo, 6%. That kind of buying power is financing a lot of goings on in the US.

Maybe I'm off target with that comment, but it seems that China need the US as a customer more than the US needs to shop there, which is slowly killing itself by doing so..

I wasn't aware of the huge foreign debt.. Another reason why it's such a bad situation and will only get worse.

What a dream it would be for trading to cease and local companies started producing again..

        Imagine..
no doubt. it is almost painful to me. the lack of communication to this day, it has killed foriegn cars, american cars, it is a self destructive abyss. real mechanics squished into socialist type pansiness. It is a bigger thought than the tire industry.

the deal with the tires, they do this every now and again, its a simply a repeat of history. Nothing ambivalent about it. the bigger picture beyond tires is the frustrating part, it needs big regulations similar to the tires, allowing culture to be culture, and the engineering from each the difference of champion and loser...

Re: Import tariffs on Chinese tires

Several things happened in the last couple days any of which say this is not over yet. I agree, stop buying from China, but keep in mind that those precious things some people can't do without at Walmart they will, in fact, have to do without.

To update, China is appealing the decision, and doing a tit-for-tat trade war (or implying they will do so).... why do you care? Most manufacturers buy key parts from China.... thus China doesn't have to do a full on trade war, simply withhold parts that were outsourced in the last 2 decades and are now only produced in China (go check your windshield wiper motor for a made in stamp).... it could get pretty ugly.

But think of the jobs this will (re)create when the US will need to make these wipermotors, for instance, themselves again... just like some 30-40 years ago...

I agree, we can make it again - however, as most manufacturers use "just in time" inventory systems; there will be great havoc for the two year to five year start up time it takes to ramp up production.
