  • Impact Gun Question for Techs

Ok im going to be buying a 1/2 imact gun soon. I want a good one, but it looks like 300 is the max i want to spend. Sears has the IR titanium for $290. Matco has the same gun for about 100 bucks more (maybe just a regular price markup). But i can buy it off of matco's site for 300 (student discount). Matco also has the MT1769A for $291 (student price). Should i buy the matco one, or just buy the IR from sears? Or is there a better snap on, cp, or mac gun that i should buy? Again, i cant spend over 300. thanks guys.

Go buy an IR 231, more gun than you'll ever need.

I like the SnapOn impact that I have. You can find pretty nice ones on Ebay cheap.

The power/price point of the IR makes it
a clear winner, though there are more powerful
guns, 9 times out of 10 you won't need it.

                They test IR's on Mustang Dyno's. :D

IR Thundergun, black with a yellow cover, got it at NAPA, not sure if you can find them new still, got my 3 years ago, Love It!!
IR 231 is a great choice too. Fixing or rebuilding is not a problem with an IR either

The "Thundergun" is a monster, but it's also expensive.

I think it was around 3bills but, that was a few years ago. Anything with 400-450ish of torque in reverse will do commercial work all day long.

The SnapOn I have is 600-650ft/lbs in reverse. There's not much it won't crack loose. ;)

I proved my Snap-On guy wrong, he said his top 1/2" gun would beat
                            any IR 1/2" drive impact.
My IR 244 humbled his ass, I don't care what the torque "rating" is,
the 244 hits harder, and RPM's quicker.

                              been rebuilt twice
