How do you figure that, when they will be similar weight and power? And the Shelby still has a live axle that can be launched with stickies.

The only thing that's strange to me... Back in the late 60's, the Z-28 was a high performance V8 small block car, and the SS was a (arguably) higher performance big block car. In the years just prior to the Camaro being discontinued, the regular high performance V8 car was the Z28 and the fancy-upgraded model was the SS.

Now, the "regular" high performance V8 is the SS, and the fancy-upgraded model is going to be the Z-28. Seems bass-ackwards, as my mom likes to say.

well as slow as GM is in bringing new models out to the floor, i still dont expect to see that particular model out for another year or two. by then shelby will have passed it again!
Life is too short to drive boring cars!

More cubes than the shelby, means more Power under the curve. Then there's the fact that my buddy just had his GT500 dyno'd at 460hp and the guy said that was good since they normally see them in the 440hp range. And remember, fresh air intake, exhaust, smaller blower pulley and a tune and you'll see these cars making well over 600hp.

this will be an easy 11 second car , gt 500 is a load, why will it beat the shelby
ford is documented to fluff up the hp and torque ratings [ford had to recall svt cobra , and mazda rx8 cause they didn't make the adverised numbers ]
gm underrates the torque and hp to not run into the same trouble ford has

The GT500 Super Snake package, which will be installed at the Shelby factory includes:

?Ford Racing Supercharger upgrade kit producing over 600 horsepower and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque; an optional 725 horsepower system is available

... from shelby page, and available today (not wish-you-were-here)

but it still sounds like fun. Bring it...
you know that if modify the 350 in my camaro , I can get hendrick motorsports hp levels of 890+ hp [with the right parts ]
gasp -a modified car can make more hp than a stocker , yet , lets not note that lingenfelter or mallet can make the same mods to chevy motor and make significantly more hp
they don't have a warranty and neither does shelby

yeah with a 25,000 dollar hood and front bumper - shelboscammo - the myth that 271 hp mustangs can out run 375 hp vettes - his garbage is so old , it is fossilized
shelby dodges got passed by cavalier z24s

That is what I was thinking
I always thought of the Z28 as a road racing package, and the SS as a Drag racing car.
Rumors of my demise by rollover have been greatly exaggerated.

2010 GT-500 is rated at 540 now, and guys are seeing high 400s at the wheels in stock trim. If anything they are under-rating them these days ... the 99 Cobra fiasco taught them a lesson. Since the 03-04 Cobra, all of the blown SVT cars have been rated low.

That's ok for him...I happen to like Fords.
