Probably one of those real but horribly expensive sorts of things. Right now it would take an unbelievably large investment to build a biofuel plant that's big enough for Big Oil to even notice. I suspect the oil companies are watching these things closely, though - but not for the reasons some people may think. They'll need something to sell through their pipelines and refineries once oil becomes too scarce. It could make more sense from a financial perspective to wait and see what some small firm comes up with, then buy them out and start making it for themselves once it becomes viable.

Petroleum companies have a rich history of selling other products--fertilizers, pesticides, etc. It's a business, and they've been around long enough to know that in business, you either adapt and change with the times, or become history.
Petroleum companies are big enough, and should be smart enough, that they'll have a Plan B when the time comes, and will lead the rest of us to it. Whether it's biofuel, renewable fuel, whatever. At some point, the government is going to say "No more gas" and these companies aren't simply going to close their doors. More than likely, before the government says that, the companies will say "This is what we're doing" and will choose the direction the rest of us have to go.

The crappy part about Bio Fuels is that they already know that we will pay $3.50 or more for regular GAs. They will charge the same or more for the Fuels they make. That does'nt help any of us.

I'll gladly pay more if it goes into our farmer's pockets rather than to the middle east.

[/quote]how scary to think that this butthole government can decree 'NO MORE GAS !'
first off - there is no alternative fuel , bet we won't see one for 50 years
you see the havoc ethanol is causing with corn prices

the goverment needs to stop busting the oil companies balls , that the oil company can deliver the product faster and easier to us Americans
our whole economy is built on oil
