Are you having problems with your trucks overheating?? I ask because I have two friends with newer Ford Diesel trucks and they have been having major problems with the trucks overheating. In the last month my neighbor has had his truck at the dealer at least 3 week. I won't even get into the crappy service he received, lets say it was so bad the mechanic lost his job. The problem is when they are towing, the trucks will overheat, they have changed everything on the truck, basically the only thing they haven't changed was the engine itself. But I'm talking all new cooling system, and I mean everything, new injector pump, injectors, replaced the oil coolers and so one, basically about everything under the hood. And the crazy thing is they have to remove the cab from the truck to get at the motor, which ended up in replacement of wiring harnesses because the jerk off mechanic messed up the connectors. Anyway anyone else having a nightmare with their Ford Diesel truck??

Re: Ford Diesel Owners, I got a question??
A F550 is a big truck, my friends have 3/4 tons. The one guy is pulling a 5th wheel trailer, so whatever that weighs, but it is under what the truck is rated for. And the other guy has an '08 or '09 and the trailer he's pulling only weighs about 5500lbs.
I'm just wondering if anyone had a problem, and if they did, what they did to fix it, since it doesn't seem that the Ford dealer here can do the job.
Needless to say he'll be buying a new Chevy diesel come the first of the year. His '01 Duramax with over 240,000 miles has never let him down.

Re: Ford Diesel Owners, I got a question??
Please keep me posted on this issue. This is the first I've heard of a cooling system issue on the 6.4 - overall these have proven to be a good engine in the field. It sounds like the dealer doesn't have well trained diesel techs and they have reverted to part changing instead of real trouble shooting. There's always something new to learn.

This is not a Ford, but my Dodge/ cummins will go to 205* just pulling empty up interstate 15 on the long grade into Los Vegas east bound. I bought the tow package new,but still use my other pickup(Ford) to tow with. Dodge Dealer said it was within factory specs.up to 240*plus, that is to much temp for me.(old school I guess) Jerry

Re: Ford Diesel Owners, I got a question??
we have replaced lots of Radiators in the 6.4s do to leaking. as for removing the cab, it is not necessary. I do it since they are designed to come off. Ive been pulling cabs off for years, saves my back.

Re: Ford Diesel Owners, I got a question??
I bought a new 2006 6.0 F-350 that went back to the dealer 13 times before we got the dealer to take it back. I found a very low milage 2003 7.3 and still have it with NO problems.
The problem with the 6.0 was that it would blow the coolant out under load. The 1st week I had it I drove the truck, with no load, from NC to FL and had no problem. I then hooked to a 28 ft enclosed trailer to go to Rockingham and it blew the coolant out the 1st mountain we went up.
We went through several sets of new heads, still did the same thing. The dealer advised us Ford had fixed the problem and had a new head design and would retrofit our engine with them and we would be fixed. NOT!!!!
Next we got a whole new 6.0 long block. It was interesting to see that it was easier to take the body off the frame to exchange the power plant than to pull it in a conventional manner. Ford dealer says you are fixed now !!
We loaded a 38 ft goose neck trailer with an 8,000 lb forklift and did a test run. It blew the coolant out the 1st mountain we hit. We made the Ford dealer tow the truck and trailer back in. They gave us a loaner F-350 and changed heads once more. Then tried several other changes....always the same under load , it blew the coolant out.
After several more attempts we got an attorney involved and they took the truck back after the 2nd letter from him.
Note: The Ford dealer really tried to help us. It seemed to me that they had very little back up from Ford. They did allot of parts changing with little factory tech support.
