Re: Dale Jr back in Victory lane
I've got so many mixed emotions about Nascar... First off in concept I love it... but then you add the Money and it pisses me off.... where in there was the race? But without the Money you don't have the race... so damn...
What I really love and I think has the most merit... After the whoopla that's crap... and they ask those fella's to start the engines.... It's a bunch of Very competitive dudes hanging out in some killer equipment... on a race track... on a Sunday in your back yard.... and Not a single one of them would give you a plug nickle to be anywhere else... this whole gig is Who they are... .. and frankly I think anyone of them would do anything to win on any Sunday...
Fun stuff to watch ... but to really enjoy it would take a lot more time then I'm willing to dedicate... so Screw it.... lets go to Bonneville and Race what "WE" can do and let the big boys... be big boys...

Re: Dale Jr back in Victory lane
I was into Nascar for a couple of years very heavy. Its now crap, well its been crap for some time now, just as NHRA does if you go fast they slow you down to run with the pack. Chevy is fast for 3 weeks they raised the roofs or gave dodge more nose, its all about keeping the stands full. They will inplode from their own weight, now the drivers cant do anything without getting fined (think Dale Jr's last Daytona win when they comaired him to his dad and he said "I aint shit compaired to my daddy" $50,000.) Who wants to watch the same cars go around in a circle, the same cookie cutter circle, Bristol and the Road coarses are the only tracks worth watching.
The speed is not the reason for the restrictor plate dont be fooled, its to get all those sponcers on the TV at the same time (big tracks that spread out might only have 1-2 cars otherwise), Dale SR's wreck went just as planned, it only went wrong went he did not get out of the car. If the Driver had more power and had to lift entring the corners, then apply the throttle again, they would slow down, there on rails now, and if they are not, they cry like babies. Put them on some 8 inch tire, take the spoilers off, and the restictor, and make them drive!2007 SBN/A Drag Week Winner & First only SBN/A Car in the 9's Till 2012

Re: Dale Jr back in Victory lane
Lately I've been doing a lot of reading and googling old stock car stuff. Those were rough and tumble days. Nowadays NASCAR is to racing as "professional" wrestling is to real wrestling. They don't relate at all--lots of glitz and very little substance. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of really neat automotive technology at work here, but it just doesn't seem to be what the sport is about any more. I wonder if last night was a gift to Jr. and what will happen when it comes down to Jr vs. Jeff Gordon for a major victory? Maybe stock car racing needs to go back to door slammers that are actually like the cars that we can buy off the show room floor. I think it would relate much more the average person.

Re: Dale Jr back in Victory lane
Ok, can someone explain the "car of tomorrow" thing to me? From what I gathered, it's basically the same car for everyone with the only difference being the engine. And the restrictive rules on the engines pretty much make those all the same, too.
NASCAR was always one of the places where rivalries between the big three were either started or settled. Seems to me like nowdays, it doesn't matter.
Admittedly, I don't follow NASCAR at all. I used to live in central florida and it's HUGE there, but I usually avoided it for many of the same reasons people here have talked about. There's nothing stock about it. I'd much rather watch amateurs or semi-pros on a dirt track somewhere where the engine builder and driver are often one in the same. Not to say I'm against all forms of pro racing; I enjoy F1, indy, GT and many like it. In fact, I'll watch just about any other kind of racing except NASCAR. Maybe if someone who likes it could explain the up side of the current state of NASCAR it would help me, and others who feel the same, understand and appreciate what we're missing. I'm open to hear it.
