I helped my buddy today replace his stove. He's been a Bonneville 200 M.P.H. Club member since the 1970'S. As I left he gave me something he recently wrote. He's not a writer and doesn't know I'm posting this but thought I'd share it.
"Bonneville is a straight line. Not that interesting I thought. Driving a car there becomes very interesting. The more horsepower the better.
How many people drive sideways a certain amount for not a quarter mile, but for MILES? They say traction on salt is 50 percent of asphalt at best.
It's a balancing act of horsepower and traction against the wind. As the scale tips, the car and you rotate, your eyes being the center of rotation, still fixed unmoviging straight ahead, like the needle of a compass. It's you and the motor as one, but you better not screw up."
