      Dan,

I am just a bit younger and at least we had tree bark to write on, but it was still 42 miles each way to school. knee deep in snow in the heat of August. Up hill both ways. Nothin' to eat but mud (that was after we invented water so we could make mud - at first it was just dirt). Square balls & drag slicks, We had No colors, that's why old T.V. shows are in black and white and so on .............

Celeste and her friends hear much similar stuff from me. Sometimes they don't know I am joking !! You are right about the concept of history. I have had them ask what it was like to live with no internet ? with no electricity ? What is was like to see the 1st airplane ?

Yeah, I walked barefoot and uphill both ways to school, etc., but my daddy's generation had it worse. They'd be riding on the open wagon on the long straight road to town, behind the flatulent horse, with a 50 mph direct headwind blowing dirt and sand in their face. All they could think and keep saying on the way was, "I sure hope this wind changes direction before we have to start back."

I keep asking my dad what dirt was like when it was new; and whether or not he rode a dinosauer to school. ;D

At what age are you no longer in your day? When does today become back in the day? As far as I'm concerned, I'm still there.

I'm finding kids do know about the past. Including music and video games. I was nearly floored when these two 14 y/o kids were going on and on about finding, downloading, and playing original software for games like Pacman, Asteroids, Galaga, Missile Command, and a ton of others.

When I was a kid, we all got Small Pox vaccinations, that left a circular scar, that I can still see today !!

And for the smokers, remember a pack of Marlboros for 39 cents? I paid 1.85 a carton when I was in the Army.
I remember driving down on the beach and building big ass campfires while the parents sat around drinking beer while we set off fireworks. Yes, this was in California, in the mid-sixties.

Yeah, they stuck you over and over in a circle on your left arm and it formed a sacb and if the scab fell of after a while, that was a good thing. Everybody had the scar. Man, entitled kids these days think things are "unfair." Naw, don't get me started. Too much material there. Way too much.

Back in my day a muscle car had a nice big V8 and was mid-sized or smaller, no opera windows or 5-mph crash bumpers. Oh, it also had either a 4-bbl carb or multi-carbs! Unless of course it was an early 4-4-2 with the rare highway cruising option which came with different rear gears and yes, a 2-bbl.
