      Re: Lutefisk? Really? No thanks!

You guys who are scared of lutefisk are a bunch of pussy's! All it is is dried fish that has been re-constututed in a lye solution. I ain't gonna hurt you, unless you have some kind of a sensitivity or something. You aren't sensitive are you? Like as in a modern caring sensetive male? With a purse. Of couse not! Then buck up and eat your lutefisk like all the rugged Swedes in Minnesota do!
Look at it this way: The first time you ever took a drink of whiskey, or a drag off a cigarette, did it taste good or smell good? No, it made you feel like coughing and gagging! But you stuck with it and got used to it. And look at all the pleasure that whiskey and cigarettes have brought to millions of men. If that isn't a good enuff reason to eat lutefisk, then I don't know what is. :'(

Joel, I appreciate your manliness. You have a pair of rocks, man.

        I don't smoke.

My first drink of whiskey? Crown Royal, bro. I loved it since day one.

Beer? Schlitz from a STEEL can. Dad couldn't pry the can out of my hands.

I have eaten liver and onions with the worst of 'em and came out smiling. Corned beef and cabbage? MMMM.... I like it a lot. Sauerkraut? Not a problem, pile it high. Chitterlings? (aka chitlin's) not too bad, but you gotta have a side dish of greens with plenty of vinegar and salt.

Lutefisk? Had me bawling like a baby, "I don't want to eat that!"

My "DO NOT EAT" list is short:

#1 (new #1, by the way) LUTEFISK

#2 menudo (I really shouldn't have to explain this to you.... ACK!)

#3 wax beans (the most vile bean on the planet)

#4 the worm in the bottom of a bottle of Mezcal. (They are palletable, but the consequences are why I stay away from them.)

        ;D

Never mind that I cannot eat anything that lived in or around water, but I've seen lutefisk, and you don't have enough money in the world...menudo, eeech...

I was hungry when I got home for lunch. Guess I'll grab the yellow bell pepper for lunch. I can identify that.

Menudo usually has tripe, honeycomb and "librillo" stomach beef meat along with the beef feet and tendons

            No thank you very much.

Fred Sanford also drank "Chanpipple" :D.

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menudo_(soup)

"The soup menudo is a traditional Mexican dish; a frequently spicy soup made with tripe. It is often thought of as a cure for a hangover since it tends to instigate sweating, causing the body to release toxins. Is traditionally served on special occasions or with family. Usually, lime, chopped onions, and chopped cilantro are added and some also add crushed oregano and extra crushed red chili peppers for a spicier taste.

Menudo is usually eaten with tortillas.

Menudo is time intensive, taking some seven hours to make. The meat should be rinsed clean first. Menudo usually has tripe, honeycomb and "librillo" stomach beef meat along with the beef feet and tendons. The feet and tendons are boiled first at low to medium heat for about three hours. Skimming off the top layer of floating foam about every 15 minutes for the first hour helps the flavor. After the first three hours, the stomach meat should be added along with salt, an onion cut in half, and one or two heads of garlic. A very important part of the menudo is the chili paste that is added at this time as well. The menudo is allowed to continue boiling for an additional three hours while covered to avoid evaporation. Once it is almost done, add the hominy.

Menudo is said to taste even better after re-heating since the flavor will have concentrated more.

The popularity of menudo in Mexico is such that Mexico is a major export market for stomach tripe from US and Canadian beef producers. Large frozen blocks of imported menudo meat can frequently be seen in Mexican meat markets.

Menudo (from Latin minūtus) can mean "small, thin, worthless, vulgar, (money) change, tripe, and tithe from small orchards."[1] It is unknown if the soup came to be known as menudo since it was made up of tripe or if any of the other meanings, which are many, have something to do with it.

The word "menudo" in Mexico can mean the raw stomach meat as well as the stew. The word tripas (tripe) normally refers to the small intestines rather than the stomach. Tripas are also eaten but normally in tacos rather than stews."

Fer God's sake don't humor him. It'll never stop.......

Glad you liked my little funny. The boys are doing pretty well. King is a PUPPY, in capitol letters. He wants to run and jump and mouth wrestle. Beaux is a serene old gentleman and wants to snooze. This is not always compatible - but they're working it out. King's PO trained him to stay off the furniture and we've always let Beaux climb up so he can get on the couch or our bed and get away for a break. When the Old Boy gets in the mood for a wrestle it's fun to watch them and King defers to Beaux pretty well.
