3000 RPM (in third)and say, for example, 18 inches vac

    Re: DD fuel economy Question

In my honest opinion, 5th gear at about 4000rpm would be the most fun... ;D

oh wait thats not what you're asking...

If the oil pressure is happy, 5th.

          Re: DD fuel economy Question

Near lugging in taller gear usually gets the best MPG but it depends on a lot of other variables... squirrel is king at this discussion, hope he chimes in soon!

If it's EFI and you can look at the duty cycle on the injectors, whichever gets you the lowest duty cycle whenat steady state cruise, is burning the least fuel. Cheap OBD scanners can show you this.

in 5th gear,, cruise your not lug'n the engine.. as most farm land is kinda flat.. not mountains..
            lower rpm wins here..
most cars only needed 36 hp to go 60mph and at 2200rpm in 5th. your over that even with the throdle blade allmost closed

              Re: DD fuel economy Question

depends on the engine, but usually the lowest gear you can drive in is best for mileage.

The "higher vacuum is better for mileage" thing does not apply to gear selection, you generally want to be in the gear that gives the lowest vacuum.

Otherwise no one would bother with overdrive.
