Doesn't have to be the same brand, but has to be the same year or newer.

I guess you would be stuck with a na 2JZ since its a 99. I would say go with the LSx and a T56.

me neither , 9 years of this fun , can't take much more
try a bimmer junkyard for a stocker , but I am really down on junkyards after having to do a jeep twice and an s10 pickup twice

I've seen bolt in kits for an LSx in a BMW, but they were for earlier and smaller models. Even if the kits aren't for you, it shouldn't be too hard a swap. If a junkyard stock motor isn't what you want, I'd go LSx.

OK, here's another choice. Find a wrecked Land Rover with the Buick based aluminum V8 and buy the whole deal for a swap. The Lucas injection sucks but I'll bet you could Mega Squirt it ('Geek - any suggestions?). Light, quick, and powerful. And pretty tough, from my experience. And it would be WAY cool - dare to be different and all that.

I think Metric Mechanics offers a drop in longblock that can be a little hotter than stock... Not sure on prices though, but worth a look...
