  • Who knows stuff about GM PowerMatic transmissions?

Ok, so I got a note from a guy who will give me one of these things, which I really have no need for, but that's never stopped me before.

I know not a lot about these transmissions, which were HD automatics used in trucks for about 10 years from the mid 1950's to the mid-1960's.

Do they have any relation to normal light duty automatics? Are they really strong? Would I be able to sell it for anything or would it be a large door stop?

Any education about these would be cool.

Brian, back in the late seventies I drove a five yard dump truck that had a powermatic tranny in it.Must have been pretty heavy duty cause it was pulling around aboutsix ton of truck and load at the speed limit. The truck was a 65 I believe.
googled it and not much info available.sorry.
Keep smiling, makes them wonder whats on your mind.

I did the google deal as well and that's why I'm trolling the masses for info.

From the drawings I see in my GM truck shop manuals, it looks to be a monster of a transmission. It would bolt into Goliath and give me way better ratios for highway driving.

I'd try Indy, too. Might be before his time - but it might not be.
