Well, it's here. I have only 2 real goals for the new year. The first is to drive over 120. I don't know how I will do it, but I am sure as heck gonna try, and have fun getting there. My other goal is to run a 5:30 mile. I have never really been able to keep up with the hard core runners, but this year that is gonna change.

This year will be a big year for me, and I don't know where it will lead me. In 28 days I will be 18, and as such I will be legally responsible for my actions. In eight months, I will be living in a new place and setting out on a path seperate from my parents, where I will have to stand up and define how the rest of my life will go. Frankly, the idea of that scares the hell out of me. I know that for many 2009 was not a great year, but for me it was probably the last year that I get to take it easy. Today is the first day of the rest of my life, and I am ready to move on.

    18 and wanting 120 in a 82 escort for 2010?
When I was 18 in 1990, I had an 83 escort. I wanted it to do 65... but it threw a rod and the head caught on fire. (3 speed auto..horrifying :

From what I can remember, there is a 1.9, that was quick escort....keep it carbed, 8mm wires, or strong 7s, a decent coil...5psi pump...and tire ratings at least a "T" and 15 inch...and check rear left strut three times before attempting (a personal omen). 120 should be darn close...if there is no roof rack on. ;D

    good luck in 2010.

FAIL. I was going to add on and ask what everyone else wanted to do in 2010, but I kinda missed that. :

When I was 18 in 1975, I wanted 120 DOLLARS. If I had that, I could buy all of Detroit and then sell it for more a week later. I had a plan, just no finances.

I moved out. It was the greatest day of my life, to put it shortly. It's huge. The biggest thing that could happen in life, ever. Moving out is huge. Nothing like it ever again. Nothing to compare. Huge.

                      Re: 2010

When I was 18 that was my one year of college. When I was 19 I had a baby on the way. Love my daughter but I don't recommend that process. In life as in comedy, timing is everything.

Doesn't sound like the folks are booting you out, just that you're starting on the next phase of your life. It's a good thing and what you feel isn't just fear, it's wisdom. I was SO blitheringly unaware of what was changing in my life that I really didn't see the changes coming. Good for you. Think before you act, ask those you respect for input but make your own mistakes, and accept that those mistakes WILL happen - and it's OK. That's where the REAL lessons in life come from.

A wise man (who's name escapes me) once said that anything worth learning in college occurs after midnight in the dormitory. Watch for these "learning experiences" so they don't pass you by - and HAVE FUN!

Aren't you going into the military, Walt? I joined the Navy on my 18th birthday. Went active duty 6 months later. Spent every last cent partying untill then. Great 6 months.

My goal this year is to find a project car/truck that I want.
                        OH YEAH
                        Long haul 07. 08. 10, 11, and 13. Looking forward to 2014
