Re: Okay, the TSA is going too far.
it would be funny if it wasn't true - isn't their purpose to make air travel safe? I suspect their belief is air travel so intrusive, that no one travels by air they've done their job.... but I suppose that's the purpose of government - to make it safe for whoever's left.Doing it all wrong since 1966

?The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted.?
?If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy?
?The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home.?
?Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpation?
?The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny?

Re: Okay, the TSA is going too far.
On another board, the TSA's proposed use of full body scanners (similar to X-rays) is a hot topic of discussion. It clearly shows shapes of weapons and such, but it also shows what looks like a sketch of your "private parts".
Some say that scanning children could lead to some sort of pedophilia. Many say it's a violation of your rights to privacy.
It's an interesting debate, for sure. My take on it is that if adults are scanned and children are not, then it's not worth the effort or money to use it; terrorists will gladly and without guilt smuggle bombs or weapons onto a plane on children... even babies.

Airlines just need to post a sign:
Air travel is not a right, it is a privilege. Maybe the airlines should take care of their own security. After all, it IS their airplane.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Two bloggers received home visits from Transportation Security Administration agents Tuesday after they published a new TSA directive that revises screening procedures and puts new restrictions on passengers in the wake of a recent bombing attempt by the so-called underwear bomber. Re: Okay, the TSA is going too far.
So much for the "War On Terror" doing anything to make air travel safer. It only got worse. Way to spend billions of dollars we didn't have in the first place!!
Also, the TSA may be "socialist," but it was put in place long before our current "Socialist" President was elected - remember that.www.realtuners.com - catch the RealTuners Radio Podcast on Youtube, Facebook, iTunes, and anywhere else podcasts are distributed!

Re: Okay, the TSA is going too far.
I'm with Dave (yellowmalibu) - it an interesting debate. We (most Americans, anyhow) expect our government to keep us safe yet most of us will fight to retain our personal rights. As always in a Democracy, the challenge is that your right to extend your arm ends at (or near) my nose. It's a Solomon's choice, for sure. I'll watch from the sidelines, add my input where I can (the internet is great for that) and see where it resolves.
The full body scanners are probably the best solution I've heard proposed so far - NOT that they are perfect. They do not provide details of your privates, just a general outline. They certainly can be installed so that casual observers can't view my "shortcomings". It sucks that we have to even consider such measures but as long as idiots are willing to shove C4 (or whatever) up their butts (or wherever) I guess we have to have some way to figure out who is doing this and who isn't. You watch - if we start relying on bomb-sniffing dogs (who are AMAZING) the idiots will start implanting explosives INSIDE these sacrificial bomb-toters. Then the dogs can't find it until it's too late. My understanding is that such implanted bombs will show up on the scanners.
I HATE that there even needs to be such discussion. At least for now, this is the hand we're dealt. The hard part is how to play the hand until a new one is dealt.
