Re: KBS coatings - anybody use this stuff - new hi temp available
I don't know this product but I hope one of us has some input. I'd love to coat my modified Hookers on the Buzz Bomb but it seems like the going rate is a bit steep for my wallet. Maybe John should be the Guinea Pig?

KBS is owned by the person that invented POR-15 paint.I painted the underside of my
Model A with KBS.Used a cheap paint roller, and a small brush for the tight places.
Most think that I sprayed it.It's really tough paint.I reccomed it.Needs humidity to set up
right.Didn't know they made hi=temp.paint.I'd try it.Calypornya...near the beach

Re: KBS coatings - anybody use this stuff - new hi temp available
I got another hi temp paint for the shorty headers on the ranger (yet to be installed)
Seth sprayed them with his new HF detail gun - spraying headers is a bit of a challenge...
In both cases- the recomended prep was blasting with sand - NOT glass beads, and they both indicate that two THIN coats is best.
The KBS stuff recomends a primer - the other stuff did not.
Perhaps I will try the KBS stuff on the 292 for the '54 - those langdon's split manifolds would look nice in a cast iron gray color - or black - anything is better than rust! There's always something new to learn.

Re: KBS coatings - anybody use this stuff - new hi temp available
I've used POR-15 too and it goes on easy (I used a cheap brush) and blends well and goes a long way too.
The local dealer passed away last year and about 3 weeks ago I got an e-mail from his widow saying she was selling all inventory half off too if you are interested. Not sure what she has in stock though and she mentions Poxy Coat and Rust Bullet too so he must have represented them also. Send me your e-mail address if interested and I will forward her e-mail in total or she said to put POR-15 in the subject line if you e-mail her below and she can send a list of what she has and costs for shipping, etc.

Re: KBS coatings - anybody use this stuff - new hi temp available
i just used it this past weekend.painted a model a frame.used the kbs as a base in black and then base/cleared in black over it.according to the rep,the base becomes one with the kbs and takes on its properties.with the clear on top,it is as smooth as snot.one word of caution though...if you spray it,make sure you have a damn good respirator.this is water based and when it gets in your lungs it produces water...then instant bronchitis.you will cough for weeks.

Dan - you should check any POR-15 website for the different products and uses for different applications. I was talking about the heat paint in particular and I've bought engine paint too from them. Send her an e-mail and see what she has in stock and any savings that might be there for you after comparing prices. I can't comment on KBS but sounds good from reviews below too.Phil / Omaha

Dan,as long as the steel in guestion is rusty or pitted the por will stick well.
Clean steel does not work so well, the por has nothing to bond to,where with rust it seals and adheres well.
I have use appliance epoxy on several under body parts and it has performed well.should work well on roll cage.Keep smiling, makes them wonder whats on your mind.

Re: KBS coatings - anybody use this stuff - new hi temp available
techline coatings is where I got the header paint Seth sprayed on for me - I'll have a report on that after we get the ranger going.
For those of you that have used por on chassis / frames / floors.... here's my predicament - I have por15 in unopened cans, along with the metal ready and the other clean/prep solution they recomend as pre treatment.
The problem is - I don't want to take anything apart on the '54 - I simply want to treat all the surface rust on the frame / floors / etc -- and I want to do it while it's on the hoist.....
any suggestions?
How much do you thin the por15?
would "rustmort" be better in this application? There's always something new to learn.

Re: KBS coatings - anybody use this stuff - new hi temp available
I dropped a line to the lady but no reply yet. We'll see what she has. The 'cage has a light coating of surface rust so I think it'll be perfect. Keith suggested that I brush paint it so that when I want to make a change it isn't a big deal to touch it up. Rustoleum may be just as good for this purpose?

John, only thin it if you're spraying it.
UV rays turned it slighly greenish.Painted it lying on my back.Didn't wear saftey glasses when using the brush
(24 hrs. later).Got some on my reading glsses.Stll there 2 1/2 yrs.later.Made working under car MUCH brighter.Calypornya...near the beach
