    Re: Putting "It" Into Perspective

Way to go pumpkin - you must know some of our mafia secrets for "convincing" people! :D

Peewee - Maxton is on my short list....you must go - if for no other reason than to see the cars and meet the people - not to go too far with the mafia references - but - you're part of the family now - like it or not!

In fact - as some of you may have seen from the forsale section - I'm selling the supercab diesel truck in favor of a crew cab... and although it is expressly because we have a new baby -- such a vehicle will be EXTREMELY handy as a "troop transport" for such long haul events... especially with 100 gallons of homebrew in the aux tank! With any luck I'll find a good candidate in florida and drive it home the first week of march. Smoke - this means a stop in your neck of the woods to pick you and Richard up on the way to a Maxton meet becomes a reality - there's plenty of room for four big dudes in a crew cab sooperdooty! ;D
There's always something new to learn.

Sue Unit just said, "Given the endless hours of genuine entertainment the BangShift guys have given you".....well, she blessed my passage to Maxton.

      I'm still kind of...

Bring your guitar and you can be the entertainment!!

I went last year having never met a single BS'er, met Bob (bluelightning) and Reni on the way down. Volunteered, got a sun burn, drank beer, met many BS'ers. Gave Seth (fahrenschnell) a ride back to MI when his care broke. Never asked to turn a wrench, and David Freiburger didnt even spit on my when I told him I drove my Toyota Corolla down.

You will have fun, maybe you will want to get into this car hobby with your own project.

maxton, then first year loring speed runs in a search brought me here to bangshift. I do not know anybody, and even mentioned a extinct japanese car as my primary project.

My past however takes any outcast feelings away.

I am in maine and want to go to maxton, knowing somebody or not.
If bangshift is as dynamical as maxton, you got beetles doing 63mph to motorcycles turbo'd doing 200.

I have been a part of forums with an illness, should not be WWW contenders, but are there anyway. This place is adult.

I still want to run the stock Fusion. I''m thinking 113 mph. Does anybody want to bet a cup of coffee against it? Can I run it?

Bring it in June and we can find a drag strip and see if yer fancy newfangled car can beat my clapped out old Escort. ;D That will be the car's last outing for the foreseable future, so I want to get my kicks in.

PeeWee, you have to go! I know being apprehensive about trying something new is normal. Have you ever been on a roller coaster? How did you feel deciding to go on it the first time? How about square dancing? Sure, it's new, you don't know much about it, but the underlying fact is that it is COOL and FUN!! Just being there so close to the madness must be out of this world. Plus people are cool there (how would I know? I've never been there - but I just know). Heck, you might even get to take a ride in one of those rockets (leave the banjo behind for the run)!! If I weren't 10,000 miles away I'd absolutely be there.

                        Re: Putting "It" Into Perspective

                        Okay Mike, I'm convinced.

Yeah, I've been on a few roller coasters. But there was this ONE....at a theme park in Charlotte. I stood there for a long time watching people ride it. It was a tube coaster with lots of twisty turns. The biggest feature of it, the signature part of it, was a huge inside loop. I watched people ride the thing through the loop with their hands in the air screaming with joy.

With courage enough, yeah, I can do that. What I noticed, but failed to digest, was....you've seen rides at theme parks where people get off and RUN to get in line to do it again? This one wasn't like that. I noticed, but it failed to add up, that people came off of this ride looking like they just woke up in a strange motel room and had no idea how they got there or why. And they did NOT run to get in line again.

So I got on, huge climb to the top, rocket drop into the inside loop. Man this is fun. WhoooHooo! The loop was nothing - is this all you've got?

No, that's not all they've got. There was a lot more coaster you couldn't see from the spectator's vantage point. There was an OUTSIDE loop buried in the spaghetti dish that made up this coaster. I mean G's to the head. Okay, now I'm red-out. Seconds after that, the climax of this most enjoyable ride was a decreasing radius vortex trip down the drain. Now about 1000 G's to the butt. I found my eardrums in my shoes that night when I was going to bed.

Okay, look for me at Maxton. I'm the short guy without a guitar.

                          Re: Putting "It" Into Perspective

PeeWee - You're gonna have fun w or w/o guitar. I really think you should bring it, though. At various times there has been a bluegrass hoe-down at the Pine Acres on Friday night. Saturday night is the Awards Banquet at the April meet - feel free to come but contact Tonya or Donna (their contact info is on <ecta-lsr.com>) so they can order enough food.

As far as volunteering - I'm sure we can work something out but we ARE in a process of re-evaluating how many bods we need in each position. I don't think we have anyone as a backup for entering records in the book (a sitting job) and Jerry will tech you well - 'tain't hard.

I REALLY look forward to meeting you - and PLEASE bring the Sue Unit. There will be plenty of ladies there so she won't feel out of place. We have a great family atmosphere and I'm sure she'll be comfortable and will fit right in. My Mom and ME may even show, at least for the banquet.

                          Dan

Thanks so much Head. I'll be there. With so much support from all sides, I guess there's nowhere else I should be on that date on the calendar.

I'll be the little guy who looks lost. To start with, at least.
