Re: when people dont know what they are selling

If it's a top loader 3 speed it could still be for a GM application and a much better piece than a saginaw. Pontiac used them in the sixties-it was the standard transmission for the GTO and others.

    318 tri-power-priceless!

"Its not rusty" which usually means its not rusty because that piece of sheet metal has rotted completely off. :

Re: when people dont know what they are selling

disappointment after looking at what the owner claimed to be a boss 302 engine for sale then finding a standard 302 4 bbl. on the flip side seeing an MSD ignition box in the trunk of a neighbours car. when I asked about it he said he didn't know what it was that it was in there when he bought the car.I bought it for $10.00 and installed it on my smallblock comet gt.

Re: when people dont know what they are selling

You guys have put me in the way-back machine. Wasn't the Buick 3 speed what they called a "selector" trans with a weird set of shift arms? Seems like there was one shifter shaft that centered in neutral and pulled out for one set of gears (say, reverse and 1) and pushed in for the other set (say, 2 & 3). I had a '55 Buick Special and desperately wanted a stick and it seems like I finally found a trans but had to sell the car at that point (it's a long story).

Re: when people dont know what they are selling

I just got burned by trusting that a friend knew for sure what it was he was selling. I ended up trading some stuff for the whole Nova so I could get the Muncie he said was in it, got it home and after crawling underneath I saw that it was a Saginaw. Pulled it out and have it sitting here as a reminder never to trust anyone again.... >

Olds 442, 3 speeds were Ford transmissions.

BTW on oldspower.com, they say that trans has the gm input/output shaft
but the ford bell housing pattern. they say you have to have a bellhousing
with a ford trans pattern, they call it a 3 speed dearborn. the saginaw would
fly apart when you hit it with the TQ of a 400 olds.

I buy Falcon consoles all the time from fleamarkets and even on ebay that are advertised for the wrong year. The best is when the console is for a convertible and they don't know it. Those are woth about 2-3 times as much. Just hit one of those tonight. ;D
