I just scored one with shifter and linkage for $40 the sleve over the input shaft was broke {were the through out bearing rides} not a clue what I will put it in but for that money why not buy it
The bearing cover is available new through GM. The trans I have had the cover broken and rewelded crooked when I got it. I have since broke my cover and had it rewelded. If I had the funds I'd have one whittled out of billet.

Let me know if you want to sell it. I want a spare.
wouldnt it be easier/cheaper to swap in a more common GM trans?
Easier? Yes. Cheaper? Hell no. I did the whole she bang including rebuilding the trans for $1200. From auto to stick. You can't buy a rebuilt muncie for $1200, much less any decent OD stick.

            Thanks for that link, Brian.

I had that trans in my pickup that I drove in HS. I wasn't too crazy about the ratio spread. The motor was gutless so that didn't help either.

I'm not either, but I'm sure it'll get better when I install steeper gears. My torquey engine makes up for the drop in rpm.
