Showed up on the infield Tuesday about noon... about an hour before the rain started, just enough time to set up the 12 x 20' tent and get everything under it.
Between being cold and wet and overcast, it was the toughest weather I've had there... but still tons of fun.
The days sort of blur together, but Sunday night after the race I had a blast.
First a neighbor comes by on a golf cart and says "wanna ride around?" I say sure... and off we go. We sort of ignored the security people and went everywhere on that thing! Eventually we got yelled at and escorted out of the garage area near winners circle.
On the way back to the camp site he stops to check out a party and suddenly another golf car stops next to us and starts yelling at us for "stealing a golf cart"... oops. Really, it was just sitting there and my neighbor happened to have a key that fit, so he "borrowed" it. We were sent away with a warning.
Later, we're hanging back at the campground listening to music obnoxiously loud, my camping buddy returns from the bathroom and says there's some guy named Captain Jonathan at Club 3 (a campsite made into a bar year after year). I figured it was some impersonator, but no, it was Captain friggin Jonathan Hillstrand from The Deadliest Catch hanging out and shaking hands and being extremely cool about letting anyone who wanted a picture to take one with them...
...and a couple good races broke out once in a while.
what they were saying at the track was that the hole was caused by the rain getting into the pavement, combined with the cold weather and it weakened the pavement.
it was freezing, but we waited it out. was glad we did. i also wished biffle could have won (i really wanted edwards, but...) , but i have to say, i like the new rule to try green/white/checker three times. it would have sucked to see a great race decided on a yellow.
I watched the last 30 laps waiting for the drags and it was a pretty good finish I thought.
I turned it on during the afternoon for a few minutes and saw the delay BS. DW looks like a slob out there! Pants about to split open and he put on about 40 lbs. Looks like he had no interest in being there.
Hell, I kind of enjoyed the race. It seemed there was a little more racing than in the last few years, but it could of been just wishful thinking. During the pot-hole breaks, I got the new stainless radiator hose, the new throttle cable bracket, and the sending unit for the temp gauge installed on the '55, so it wasn't a total waste of time. ;D
