Re: Favorite TV drag racing announcer

Mike Dunn, hands down. A few yrs ago Shelly Anderson did a really good job too. Most the ones on the list above annoy the shit out of me.

Nowadays, Paul Page is ok, but Dunn just grates on me.
Either you are kidding, or you are an idiot just like Page.
Perhaps you are related to that talking butthole.

Relax spanky, he's just sharing an opinion. There's no "right answer"

And we all make mistakes. I used to think all Stude guys were good. :D

Re: Favorite TV drag racing announcer

I had a hard time picking between the top three.

I went with the one thats still workin' the mike, Frey Daddy. I enjoy listening to his Sportsman coverage, I just wish there was more of it on TV.

The top two with ALWAYS be Legends however.

I'll break with the trend here, my vote would be for Mike Dunn, he's been there and done that and has a great way of explaining things, I've learned more about Drag Racing listening to him then I learned when I was racing!

Not good. He's a credit to the show.

They went to him once or twice at Pomona, but it was not an on-screen deal, just the voice. He very well could have been on the phone or an ISDN line or something.

'Geek -- Kepner is an astounding drag racing historian. He literally makes me look like a guy stumbling into a drag strip for the first time. You can literally yell out a national event from just about any year and he'll run down the whole list of winners. I ate dinner with him and a couple other people during the NHRA event weekend in Vegas a few years ago. He's a total personal hero and, in my opinion, doesn't get the credit he deserves. He is great on TV, kills rooms when he hosts events, and has won a shitload of races in his zillion mile Crown Vic. He bracket races the thing like a champ and he has even won "heads up" at George Ray's strip. I'd equate him to a musician that other musicians tell people about as being one of the all time greats. In my opinion he is not an NHRA guy, hit style doesn't fit, and therefore he's not as well known by the casual fan. On my bucket list is a box marked, "Announcer a race with Brett Kepner"
That which you manifest is before you.

Kepner is a living legend in St. Louis. He's pretty much Mr. Gateway International Raceway, taking photos at every T&T through the season and helping out anyway he can. My goal is to attend one of his FREE drag racing clinics he puts on every year.

Usually he can be found on the starting line (he'll be the guy in shorts no matter what the weather) barking orders.

My vote was Steve Evans because I grew up watching his coverage on TNN.
                            GM G-bodies, because I can't afford a 69 Camaro.

                              Wasn't Kepner also "Mr. Dirt"?

                                Yep.

And if he is at the wheel of a Dodge Caravan or a 3rd gen, mid 70's Corvette, beware the Dirt in the opposite lane. He came to win and win he does.
