my current shop is filled up, it don't matter how big it is, the junk collects to fill the available space. And I built another garage (that holds 6 cars) and my shop is still filled up.

My current shop has vast amounts of space could part about 8-10 cars. Air condition and heated. Excellent ventilation. Plenty of room to maneuver and unlimited ceiling. My shop is the out the front door in my drive way.

Ok, here's my best shot.

How's this for starters...
- 1400 sq.ft
- Two 4-post carlifts, + 3 parkingspaces. 4 more around back, but still indoors in a glasshouse.
- 270 sq.ft of storage-loft and 130 sq.ft of 'chill-out/hang-out'-loft with TV, VCR, coffee, microwave, lawnchairs...or aka "The Benchrace-corner"
- Radiant floorheating
- 230/380Volt power.
- 150 liter compressor
- Mig/Tig

...and still I don't have enough room to put my stuff.
I'm even using my fridge at home to store some parts. For some of you that might be a dead give-away that I must be single... ;D

Me and some other guys have an old aircraft hanger. I don't know how big it is, but we have a dozen cars in the parking area, and room for 6 more in the work area. A couple of 2 post hoists (getting a third), couple of welders, plasma cutter, smoke wrench, couple of presses, a real anvil, 60" sheetmetal shear, a brake, engine hoist, vertical mill, blast cabinet, big compressor, couple of tubing benders, etc.

Its ok for the $1200 a year rent.

We need a shrinker/stetcher and beadroller, lathe, and tire machine and balancer.

I think you maybe close - but then, we all are.

I would love the cooperative rented space idea - like the hangar mentioned above - but, that takes a very special group of mutually respectfull people, and that mix is rare.

bigblock- if your entire house looks like that fridge - well, then maybe you're already beyond the point of no return....
do you rent the shop space or own it?

Well 'before' i got the garage, you could say there were a 'couple' of items spread around the house : Not real heavy parts, because I live upstairs... ;D

I rent the place and have a friend of mine rent part of it again for 2 of his cars. He uses it mainly for parking his cars and some occassional wrenching. But he's no gearhead so about 95% of the time I on my own there.
