  • One Ugly Lamp

There we were at the Jameson Inn in Laurinburg for the Maxton event. I was stretched out on the bed watching the TV...

Way back before Christmas I was sitting in a chair in our kitchen while Sue Unit was giving me a haircut. I had nothing else to do but to just sit there and stare at the wall. After living in this house for nearly two years I finally SAW the wall. Ya know how most guys can walk through a room or LIVE in a room and can't describe the first thing about the decor? That's me. I dunno, it had walls.

But I finally SAW the butt-ugly wallpaper in our kitchen and that crap had to go. The ugliest paisley-looking flowered shit - this can't be in OUR house! That's got to go. About a month of steady labor later, the walls were painted white and the wallpaper was gone. I should have never SEEN the walls.

So there in the Maxton motel room, just to the right of the TV, I SAW the lamp. I'll put this up against any lamp in America in an ugly contest. It's obviously made from an old bowling trophy:

We were warned ahead of time not to stay at the Clinton. Good advice, apparently.

Maybe they put stuff like the bowling trophy lamp in motel rooms so we won't steal it...Lemme see - bowling trophy lamp? Naw, don't want that. How about this telephone? Looks great but three of the number buttons don't work. Guess I'll leave that here, too.... Hey, I DO need an alarm clock but the SET ALARM button on this one makes the light come on in the bathroom. And that's all it does. I'd call room service for a wakeup call instead, but the zero button on the phone doesn't doesn't work.....It's stuck like somebody poured syrup in it or something...

              Dang.

                Re: One Ugly Lamp

I may have posted this before so if I have sorry.

Peewee - I wish I could not notice things - I really do - my problem is I notice EVERYTHING - and all the little details that aren't right bother me.... hence my propensity to remodel entire houses with in months of moving in.

Well - one thing I absolutely could not stand about this house when we moved in (after removing every stitch of carpeting in the first 24 hours of ownership) was the chandelier in the dining room.... the worst off white gold / green, ivy, candelabra type crystal hanging pile of ugliness EVER!

It was a distinct pleasure removing it from the ceiling in all it's HEAVY ugliness.

Rhonda convinced me not to throw it away but to let her list it on ebay --- I suggested what a major PITA it would be to pack and ship - but she insisted - and boy am I glad she did.

That ugly pile of nastiness fetched $660!!!! Two folks were bidding back in forth - one in NC as I recall and the other in GA....
Paid another $80 for shipping - Rhonda fit it into a 27" TV box we happened to save from moving.... that money sure helped out as we were repainting, buying bunches of new light fixtures and all the new house stuff.

So - if it's one of those polarizing doo dads you hate - LIST IT ON EBAY! You just never know!
There's always something new to learn.
