  • pansy weakass tool rant

I broke the 1/2 ratchet yet again. My 3/8th one is bent and loose in the guts.
my 15 year old estwing hammer sings like a bell...
stretched ten mm socket right where it matters...

    everything sucks.

I found this for 11.50 delivered. this makes 4 sold according to the source.. a cheap breaker that is gonna break...3 others must agree.
I cannot remember the last time I encountered strong tools. The two ratchets I have are supposed to be a walk into napa and replace.. but I haven't had good luck with that in the last ten years.

    rant never over.

that's why whatever tool I buy it comes with 2 important things:
      1) a lifetime warranty
      2) a window to throw it through if they don't honor said warranty.

this past Saturday I had to work. had a mkvIII come in for a O2sensor. After breaking, 2 swivels , 1 o2 socket, 3- 3/8 extensions and a 1 1/4 ext. all to make 0.7

all are snap -on, or at this time ...Snap -Off.

I got a Penens 1/2 drive socket wrench, it just won't die.
1/2 the time I got a 2 1/2 foot pipe on the handle.

who the hell is Penens Corp anyway?

I have a couple proto ratchets from Rhonda's Dad - they seem to be pretty good stuff so far, the ratchet mechanisms are much heavier than craftsman.

The newest craftsman 1/4" ratchet I have is a joke - it skips and changes direction at will.

My first "real" tool set was Proto, which is Stanley's premium line. I still have the short (maybe 10") 1/2 drive ratchet. Indestructible but the head is too big - there's lots of places it won't fit. So far my Snap-Off stuff has been excellent - either it works perfectly or, after MANY years it wears out and they give me a new one - I'm OK with that. I was really surprised when I went on the Snap-on truck looking for a replacement for a worn out 1/2" 3/8 drive socket (often used on a 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor on my impact) that was at least 20 years old and the guy handed me a new one with a smile and "No charge". Deal. So far my Snappy 1/2 drive long breaker has proven indestructible. Pricey, but bulletproof.

I have an S-K Wayne 3/8 ratchet like that. My Dad gave it to me in my first tool box. Damn thing is older than I am and has been as consistent as the day is long.

Hehe. My old man is a fleet mechanic that has worked on practically everything under the sun from backhoes, forklifts, fords, chevys, dump trucks, tracked dozers, oil field wells, and of course 18-wheelers and prefer's NAPA's tools to Snap-off and Mac. He'd laugh all the time at guys breaking ratchets, impacts, and sockets and swears everytime his NAPA stuff would take care of buisness.
                              Escaped on a technicality.
