  • Looking at a car, need advice

It is a 71 Pontiac LeMans sport. Current owner has had it about 9 years. Did most mechanical work himself. Some old body work done before he got it and looks okay but is a driver car and is pretty straight. A kid owned it before him and did a cheap Judge clone job on it. Problem one, he replaced the rearend (was whining) with another from a 71 lemans. Drive shaft is too long. What damage should I look for and how much to shorten and balance? 2nd problem. Has a Judge spoiler that looks okay on the car but is cracked. Where can you find a replacement? I would prefer to have the spoiler than repair the holes in the trunk.

driveshaft - budget $250 you should be able to do it for less.

bring a magnet and a friend to make sure the budget body work is not hiding enormous amounts of bondo in the typical places.

The longer driveshaft certainly has not done the rear end of the trans as Spidey pointed out - could require some trans work... but not a complete overhaul.

Spoiler - check the major catalogue houses - they have to be available, probably a few options.

hows the wiring? nightmare hackjobs under the dash?

      floors? rockers? trunkfloor?
There's always something new to learn.
