  • Brief rant

I think people who post "Gauging Interest" for sale ads are idiots.

Post it for sale with a price. If it sells, there was interest. If it does not sell, no interest.

    Simple enough?

    I'm glad it Friday. ;D ;D ;D

As a seller it's easy to get disgusted with time-waster looky-loo buyers...

I guess the reverse can also happen as well.

if you really just want to "fish" to see what it's worth - put it on ebay with a high reserve, the market will tell you what it's worth as long as you do a good enough job of pictures and description.....

I don't quite understand the folks that ignore the market entirely and just ask "what they feel it's worth"....

there's been a poorly painted yellow 70's vette around town for a few years that's a perfect example - truly horrible DIY paintjob on a smog era vette with mediocre everything else and a so so interior -- asking $10,500????
There's always something new to learn.

This Buick was for sale along a road near here. From 50 ft away you could tell it had issues. I pulled over to look at it, expecting to see a demo car price tag. It was $3500! Guess the guy was gauging the market?
Now it's for sale at a local wholesaler's lot. Far from clean like they say in the ad, it's a rusted out, bent up POS and unless you wanted the drivetrain for a swap, I wouldn't want it for free. Well, I take that back, I would take it for free, sell the drivetrain, then scrap the rest. it's gotta weigh 3500 lbs minus eng. and trans.

I like those Electras too bad its a turd.
                Convertibles are really nice too.

The gauging interest thing is really dumb.

                  Exactly...I think...

The point is, when people are dangling something out there like they want to sell it, and then when you go to bite they either: suddenly value it so highly that they cannot make a deal with anyone, or you suddenly realize that they were just feeling out the market, it wastes the time of the serious buyer and it's a pisser.

Many sellers are having a little trouble accepting how little their stuff is worth in dollar terms these days. It ain't the nineties anymore. Still, there are a few buyers who have been sleeping for the last five years and spend their money like it is, so I guess I can't blame a seller for trying.

What I don't understand is cars with for sale signs - but no price?

1.) I have bought cars at a show when not really looking for a car. I got the $ locally - and drove it home - same day - from the show. Twice I've done this. If I think it's a good deal - I buy. If I don't know the price, I walk away without looking any further. Even if owner is standing there. Is he embarrased of the price?

2.) With no price on a car - how do I know if I am really interested? What I'm saying is if you have a 19?? bla bla bla and I think it's really a neat car, I may be interested... but I'm only interested if I know the dang price.

                    Maybe it's just me...

well some are not that stupid.. and through it out there to get ideas...
90% of the ebay motors adds are like that "right to end early ,as for sale local" is their out after they get an idea..
only ones that seem to get pissed about people posting adds to get idea of worth. is the ones that are only gonna flip it for profit..

                          Ridiculous scenario.

I'm not talking about selling off your deceased Uncle Zeb's cedar branch that looks like the Virgin Mary, I'm talking about the yo-yo's that post up their stuff in a 'gauging interest' ad and are wishy-washy about selling or are looking for a ego boost to see who wants their stuff and how much they will pay. Figure it out for your damn self. Don't expect others to price your junk for you.

                            I got a about 500 music boxs..
that are worth a ton.. that I got when my grandmother died..
I'll keep a few,, but ..place'n an ad for 10 buck a piece is. foolish..
people die all the time. and family members must do something with it..
some you keep, some you can't..
maybe , some day you'll have to deal with this, or does your family members hate you that mush that , they'd leave you nothing..
I mean really,, I kept one claw foot table that was 150 year old and in the family..
but no one wanted the other 3...
                            I would've thought.. maybe a c note.. at a consignment shop...
                            they where worth thousands each...
                            oh. ya.. ridiculous
