I have an aluminum 5.3L short block, from what I understand it has the ls6 crank and full floater pistons, does anybody have an idea on what it's worth?
should I keep it for my vette at a later date?
Correct and it's got a shorter crank and I think a Metric 60 bellhousing.
It's worth a good bit since it's an aluminum block but not as much as an aluminum 6.0 or 6.2L engine. I'd keep it since it's a good solid starting place for a motor and you're vette will appreciate the loss of weight in the nose vs going with another iron motor. Look what that hack job guys did with an iron 5.3L in a Fairmont and judge the potential of what you've got.
oops ,
The engine block is a cam-in-block deep skirt 90 degree V configuration with five crankshaft bearing caps. The engine block is cast aluminum. The five crankshaft bearing caps each have four vertical M10 and two horizontal M8 mounting bolts. The camshaft is supported by five camshaft bearings pressed into the block. First design engine blocks have different drill and tap depths using both medium length 100 mm (3.94 in) and long 155 mm (6.1 in) M11 cylinder head bolts. Second design engine blocks use only the medium length 100 mm (3.94 in) bolt with a common drill and tap depth.
the 799 heads were replaced with some head i cannot tell what they are b/c somebody ground the 3 digit casting number off the outside of the heads, where else can I find out what heads I have? the only numbers under the valve cover are A040
Pulled the pan it does infact have the 12552216 crank. there are still gems at the salvage, you just have to look!
