NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Ford Motor Co. announced Wednesday it is killing off the slow-selling Mercury car brand after 71 years. The move had been widely expected as Ford has revealed few new products for the brand in recent years.

It's been YEARS since I've last seen one...and it was a drag car, snorkel scoop and all.

Post pinto - didn't Mercury get a version of the Escort badged as a Bobcat as well?

I'm still ticked they didn't make the '05 marauder with the supercharger that was proposed... my friend just picked up an '04 what a nice car.... Oh well - another brand bites the dust - seems to be a sign of the times.

Now if we could just get Lincoln off the stupid naming convention its on ....
