It was the CJ Pony Parts Route 66 Rally

Mopar Wins at Route 66 Rally! It was a pleasant surprise to see more than just vettes and stangs pulling in as I ate my free prime rib at the Big Texan. I had a good spot to park and a good seat inside to view. There were several nice Mopars participating. Chargers, Challengers and an Omni GLH! All kinds of cars from Mercedes V-12 twin turbos to Audi station wagons. Bill showed up and we milled around the cars a while. I did say a mopar won right? Follow me through the pics and see if you can tell the winner...

This was my view from the table inside.

Luck was with me in getting a prime parkng spot!

This is Tony from just south of Detroit, one of the East Coast guys. Tony drove a sweet looking gold Charger.

A classic view of The Big Texan

Even a Dodge truck was in the running! Is it the winner?

A nice Chally wearing Bull Run decals

Here is Tony's Charger which is equipped with ported heads, cam, headers, cat back open exhaust and some other tuner goodies. Tony makes plastic fuel tanks at a business back in Michagain using a blow moulding machine.

Sean and his dad drove this Charger down from northern Indiana not far from Chicago. Sean's dad had a 71 Charger back in the day.
I didn't get to talk to the owners of this Challenger. Have you seen the winner yet?

They said the Camaro was a Cop magnet and got stopped doing 30 over.... Ooops! A ticket gets you disqualified however this guy was able to get off with a warning....

More details of the orange Chally... Was it the winner?

Kinda looks out of place with all the other hardware huh? The guys driving this Omni intended to compete in a Viper but it was involved in an accident two weeks ago....

Almost a stealth approach to racing

Yes it's a Mopar! GLH stands for "Goes Like Hell!" Have you seen the winner yet?

Pretty much stock stuff.. A 2.2 Turbo 5 speed car

Brothers Richard and Seth Shawger posing with ..... The WINNING CAR! How cool is that?
I had a nice talk with Richard and Seth. They have family in Clovis and were going on there to make a repair on the shift linkage.

the description of rally is vague, and two groups going two directions...meeting in texas.
it seems I have seen this story already...

what kinda publicity stunt is a car that kills people mounted sideways claiming to be a "winner"?

shift linkage was a day one and onward problem. I knewa guy l9ocal that scrapped just for the shift linkage...good call...as the firewall bent too..just driving. This car is as symbolic to evil as a ricer.

look at the space betwwen the bumper on one side and then the other. the car is bent at the firewall. That is how we determined a straght or bent omni. It is equivelant to Totalled.

I KNOW this model. They were done, at day one... even with just a carbed 2.2 liter.

this is silly. Rally is a fun thing to watch and monitor..but in cars worth something in at least one way. :

              Bitchin' little car!
We did a time distance rally in my dad's '64 GTO as kids....that was all kinds of fun.

Pretty cool feather in the cap of the lil' Omni, coming off the bench to stand in for the Viper.

I like the GLH. Question is, did anyone eat the big steak?
