Yeah, maybe we're being a little too smart-alecky here. But I kinda figure Mr. Steinbrenner got plenty out of life the way he lived it and needs little from me. I bet he'd agree.
I was definitely a baseball fan in my growing up, as were virtually all of my best freinds. You know, drag- (and street-) racing runs about the same pace as baseball and most guys I know were into both if they were into either. We had the L.A. Dodgers, Tommy LaSorda and owner Walter O'Malley...and announcer Vin Skully, who made listening in on the radio as good as being there.
My present-day Padres can't hold a candle. You go to the stadium (Petco F'n Park of all things, like it's a place to take your dog to go sh*t) and you can't even hear the announcer's voice. When Skully was annoucing there were ten thousand people in the stadium with handheld AM radios all tuned in to that voice.
