  • Some Turbo Engine Porn

Ok, since we're on a major turbo kick around here, I'll throw some photos up I shot at DMC the other day. This is Paul Major's Corvette which is a little ways off from completion after a complete rebuild. This car is frikking awesome and the guys at DMC have done some TRICK stuff. This motor and it's Marcella intake manifold are killer....the massive trunk mounted turbos are killer and the fact that I think the car looks like the most recent bat mobile without the rest of it's body on it is killer too.

    Cue drooling!

Marcella manifolds are simply works of art. I can't remember if he has a thread on yellowbullit or somewhere else, but I can drool for days looking at his stuff.

I hope they more the electrical stuff on that vette away from the two 1200* hairdryers. Although I don't know nothing about heat gain in a drag application, so maybe its fine.

      Should be a killer car.

Prior to the wreck, this was one of the baddest drag radial cars on Earth. After everything these guys have done...it'll be a world stomper.

They are using a new EFI setup on it called Pro EFI and these guys are loving it.

            Pro EFI? seriously?

It's based on the same box as Edelbrock's Super tuner/victor/whatever. The guy behind that system is Jason Siebels, same guy who was behind the AEM, which was also an older OEM system adapted for aftermarket/racing use.

I'm really surprised to see that system on an engine like that. Truth be told, distributor / drag racing engines are pretty much the easiest systems to install/tune. But right now, all you see ProEFI on, is Toyotas, Hondas, Mitsubishis... and apparently, one badass turbo drag car!

I'm guessing the tuner used to be an AEM follower. Lots of AEM guys defected over to ProEFI when Siebels left the company and started his new venture.

Siebels is from Omaha, NE too.

Interesting note: all the GM Bonneville cars from a few years ago, used AEM computers. Nobody talked much about it, I had to peek inside to see them myself - a GM engineer told me they had Siebels come out and install/tune them on their Ecotec engines. They didn't use BigStuff3 which I found to be interesting.

Scott, I'll get the details but Dennis was saying that the setup was very user friendly and it is going to allow them to eliminate lots of redundant wiring for the ignition box, etc.

I'm a luddite on this stuff, but Dennis was very complimentary of this setup. They have run the car on the dyno and he was able to really hone in on the tuning "happy place" quickly.

that's great! I am glad to see them running something unique for that kind of car.

ProEFI had a rocky start, I helped tune one before they released their laptop tuning software. The first 2 years, you had to use some bulky editor to make changes. Finally this year they released tuning software and guys really started liking it.

It has sequential, but I can't find out if it supports low impedance injectors. They might have included a more powerful injector driver to support this now. Alternatively, Injector Dynamics just came out with injectors that are high impedance, but crazy high flowing (200 lb/hr and up!). Maybe they run those in the vette.

I believe Paul Major is enjoying PRO-EFI so much that he had it installed in his street car too. Pro-efi threads on the supraforums always made for entertaining reads, well before Saad Saad was banned.
