  • Pondering a color change

In my upcoming plans for the Escort is a complete stripdown and re-paint. I am debating whether or not I want to go with the same red and white scheme that it has, or switch to silver and white, using the same lines that the car has now. The silver and white should help keep it a little cooler on the inside, but I have grown attached to the red and white, and everyone locally knows my car by it. Thoughts?

By the way, I decided to paint on the numbers, but for now I will just window chalk on the class, since that may be changing, at least until I can afford some vinyl letters.

I like the red and white, but I am sure your car would be cool in silver/red also.

I really like the red/white scheme on it now.
      Escaped on a technicality.

Walt, stop in some weekend with a gallon of single stage, or two quarts of each, and we will change the color.. Might be able to fix some rust too! We can make it shiny and red! Silver should be clear coated IMHO, makes it last longer. Single stage enamels in silver tend to fade and turn gray. Let me know if you want to stop by and make a change.

I may either look to you or Dan for advice/help when it comes time to paint. But along with a color change or refresh, the car is due to be 100% stripped down, fix all the rust, replace the doors, driver's side fender, hatch and hood, and then straighten out the body. Gary and Pam Bieneke(sp?) were giving me some advice while we sat next to each other in the staging lanes at Maxton, and based on what they said I want to find a buzz box that I can put a gas tank on and then go to town on the rust spots.

I think something more "sinister" looking than red & white would be good, but hey, what do I know ( I currently have 2 white trucks - I hate the white on both, and a burgundy cadillac - hate that color, pewter blazer - hate that color, blue Ford falcon - love the color, hate that it's a ford)

Silver & white would be decent split on it, but I'm leaning towards flat red & black.... just an opinion (and you know what they say about those...)

it'll add to the cost a little but , if your stuck on red and white..
why not all white and red peril over the white where you have the red now..
but if it was me. I'd flip the colors..
white top red sides( or white with red peril)

black and red is very sharp..
but black will be hot and is unforgiving..
silver needs to be cleared and is a pain to paint for a first time paint, very easy to zeebra stripe

                even with the cage,

I'd go metallic cheap anyhting , and smother in 2 part extreme urethane to tighten , stiffen...over some real red oxide primer.

squeeze out as much power to the ground as possible.. and grab the interior engine bay the same...smothered.

my own 83 escort gained a resonance to the point of strut failure....body is a bit 1980s dainty (like all the others).

single stage is great f your playing with old american 16/18 ga bodies.
the econoboxes never have been that lucky. they need the extra. :D

                  I like the red/white combo.

are you going to fix the extra interior floor air circulation vents as well? or are those old school nascar weight reduction devices?

Do what you like. Me and Thumpin' will help you get it on the car. The red/white HAS become sort of your calling card, but that can change.
