Dig it...the price aint bad either....

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

Re: S Type Riviera (turbo)....too cool not to share

I see those rivieras and always always think of the friendly competition my dad and his friend had in the 80s...(both OTR drivers) as if they did not get enough of each other driving paired loads...

two oddball cars, possibly the only two I have ever seen...
the diesel cadillac eldorado and the 350 riviera.
    they even raced them. :

    "wouldn't you rather a buick?" ;D
had to be there. They even got seriously arguing.
both sagging in the back with their fake high class stuff. wiggly wire hubcaps, window switches braking, big heavy doors rumbling. ridiculous.
they had fun while it lasted.

The best competition they ever had was one had a 318 coronet, and a 455 olds delta88.

the dodge drivers version of one of the highway rampages is hilarious...

"I heard this whistle coming...the dodge swayed to the right, and that 10ton car went by doing at least 125mph...."

imagine swaying a dodge coronet with an even bigger cars breeze?

    priceless.

this is before that racing movie where the drivers even raced rental cars like mad men.(trvia q: what was that movie?)

not to hijack the thread.. the 3.8 turbo riveiera as transverse, and turbo'd.. I bet it did good while it lasted. The 8cyl riviera, and caddies diesel 8 was borderline insanity.

First of the FWD Riviera's and who knows why they picked the S-type moniker. The engine is in still sitting longitudinally and uses the same system that the Tornado did with the diff mounted next to the oil pan. This example has the early "mileage maker" draw through carbed V6. It was about trying to make as much economy as possible and the turbo lag wasn't the greatest. I really want a later EFI 84-85 when the focus was back on how to make V8 power with V6 mileage. It didn't succeed at either (unless you count being more powerful than the weak kneed V8's of the time) but was an exciting compromise.

box: My answer is Days of Thunder. Still a good movie for the time, IMO even if it makes several worst car movie lists.
        GM G-bodies, because I can't afford a 69 Camaro.
