  • Army Specialist Christopher Moon of Tucson memorial.

Today Specialist Christopher Moon arrived home to Tucson for the last time. He died from injuries he sustained from a road side bomb while serving in Afghanistan.

I want to paint a picture. I am not a very eloquent man so bare with me.

Today Specialist Moon arrived at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. As a show so support for the family and to pay our final respects we were asked to line the main street leading in and out of the base. When I arrived and took position I was close to the air field, the main gate to the base is about 1.5 miles away. There were Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers and Mariens lining both sides of the street from the terminal to the gate....not one gap...shoulder to shoulder. I would estimate close to 2500 people or more. The procession was lead by the Arizona Rangers and the Patriot Guard. The Patriot Guard arrived in force today...I lost count at 120 riders...all there to support this family. We stood in the sun for over an hour, not one around me person complained...and as the procession passed we all saluted as they passed...

    It was a humbling experience

Too many kids. I support the effort in Afghanistan but every loss is exactly that - a loss. Peace to his family and friends and may all the fighters come back soon and safe.

                        may he rest in peace..
but there will be more of the same, sadly..
cause we will not do it right,, and go in both barrels ablazen..
it's truely amazing that after 8+years we've only lost the amount of troops we have..
d day lost tons more in one day..
but that did what needed to be done,, and untill something on that scope is done, this will drag on and on..

Welcome Home Spl R. Moon. RIP

We have done the same here at Randolph AFB. The same, from flightline to main gate and beyond...
The last Marine had people standing at attention 8 miles from the base and at one of the rest stops just north of San Antonio on IH35. The city of Shertz Tx,outside the gate, had the fire trucks out with the ladders crossing the 4 lane street. People stop there cars and GET OUT! I hope I never have to do it again, but I will when called.

Randolph is a beautiful base - but I'm sorry that anyone has to do this duty. Thanks for your efforts. My brother is a retired Navy commander and lives in San Antonio so I'll ask him if he's done this duty.

I know how you feel. There were lines of cars at the intersection I was at and you can tell they were wondering WTF, then they saw the motorcade and everyone of the people got out, stood and saluted....
