1 week, 5 days. Then I am at school. It's starting to sink in. I have less than twelve days in which to finish my private pilot's license, buy a daily driver, pack all of my stuff, hit either woodward or back to the bricks, and drive up there.

Re: The countdown
Checkride should be between the fifteenth and the seventeenth. I have all of my flight requirements filled, I just need to take the written before I can meet the examiner. That should happen in the next few days. Dad is a flight instructor, and he operates a small flight school up here.

Re: The countdown
Flying is a fun thing. Mom and Dad met at a flying club at Detroit Metro, with their first ever date being Dad teaching Mom to change the oil on a plane. I took my first plane ride when I was six years old, and I have been flying ever since. I have around 50 hours, and I have soloed in gliders and powered aircraft. I am hoping to grab my glider ticket next summer.

Ten days. I take my written tomorrow, as well as I have scheduled a couple of test drives, one on another '06 ion, this one with a 2.4 5 speed that is loaded, and another on a '08 Focus with a 5 speed. I am also looking at a couple of LaCrosse's in town that look decent, at least if I can find one with a audio input jack.

Re: The countdown
9 Days. Passed my written today. Just a few little things to wrap up and then I will be taking my checkride. Plan to buy a car tomorrow. Current debate is between a '08 Focus and an '06 Saturn Ion with a 2.4. Both seem decent, for the automotive equivalent of toaster ovens. Both sticks, but the Focus is two years newer and has 15000 fewer miles than the saturn. The Saturn is listed at 9000, the focus at ten. What do y'all look for as far as daily drivers are concerned? The Focus is more comfortable for me to drive, but is ugly, slow, and has crank windows and manual locks. The Saturn is LOADED, and the styling isn't as bad as the Focus. It does everything but wipe for you, and I am not so sure about that. It does have a weird feel to the shifter, while the focus clicks smoothly and easily through the gears, with much better clutch feel.

Re: The countdown
the way I look at it the less "options" on a car the less that can go wrong. so just because the saturn is "loaded" is not a selling point to me.
Look you are upgrading from an escort, so anything is more luxurious.
