  • Anyone have/had a good Non-auto use for a Zip-tie?

The handle on my beloved thermos broke, and since I'm one to milk every last bit of life from an inanimate object, I thought it'd be a good place for a zippy.

Which makes me wonder, what other sain, or crazy uses have you seen/done with a zip-tie?

    Post'um up.

I used to use these a lot:

Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!

One of the girls on the high school robot team used them to hold her hair up....makes it safer to use the drill press, etc.

I have a tendency of using them to turn my normal belts into temporary tool belts around the house. also good for keeping pets out of cabinets(or that terror of a nephew).

I also tend to milk things for all they are worth- so one became the zipper handle for my backpack

I'm currently using one as the adjustment on my work hat.

I've used them as emergency boot laces. Definitely not a long term solution, but works to get you to the store to get new ones.

Paper feed tray on the printer is held in with a tab on either side with a nub that fit into a whole in the prints case. Someone tried to see if it would bend the opposite way, and snap off goes the nub, leaving a little hole. Zip tie right through both holes, problem fixed.

Used them to hold up a shower curtain.

haha, this isn't zip ties but it reminded me of my brothers work boots, where he works (power plant) they have these super heavy duty stainless staples he used to mend his boots which are steel toes with a double layer leather flap that also goes over the toes. now that double layer flap looks like a gothic dudes ears lol :D :D ;D

hose clamp on a garden hose (connect two together )
pipe insulation hot water pipe in house
garage door lock till I got the lock rekeyed
hold speaker on raffers in garage(old take outs from car or home)
hold vase together while glue dried
same with wood, but now I have clamps

I'm using a few three footers to hold the pvc conduit and switch / outlet boxes to the 6" pipe on the docks - work perfect!

I use the big ones to hang stuff from the rafters in my shop.

Stuff like a Mopar 8.75 diff housing and the exhaust system from the Ranger. ;D
