  • I took a scenic drive today.

I headed off into the hills in the Jeep and brought the camera along. Figured I'd share some of the scenery around here I left a bit after noon, cruised up to Cave Lake and Success Loop (part 1). When I was done there I rolled back through Ely and out to the county road that passes through the mine (part 2).

Started off with a trip through a small creek.

This is where I stopped to eat lunch.

    Damn Government >

And to end part one, WTF was this doing passing through Ely?!?!?

As I said, I went up to the County Road that goes through the Mine.

These were taken from the top of Rib Hill that's on the south side of the mine.

Then there is an old Ghost town off the county road, it may even be considered Mine property, I'd have to look at the boundary map. So of course I took pictures of all the automotive junk :P

      Bunch of engine parts!

      That's a HUGE clutch pack.

I think this was an old horse stable.

I thought I found a model for the "Bat Cave Garage" but an interesting thing when I went to look in....

      I heard water running inside!

Back on the county road, going through the mine. You can see the mast of our BE Drill (it's white).

The Public Over Look for the mine. The white shovel there is our BE495, ~80 tons per scoop.

      On the county road.

A load of Ore, ballparking around 260 tons of dirt there.

      It speaks the truth!

So that was my day. I left out a few pictures. I think you could view all them here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?aid=2079917&id=1042835976&page=3

And to wrap it up, a video driving to my backyard from behind the courthouse downtown. Warning, may cause motion sickness :P

This camera's mic picks up the weirdest sounds while missing others :-\ And YouTube seem's to of white washed some of the brighter areas :-\ But otherwise, Enjoy! ;D

Re: I took a scenic drive today.

I love where I live, for the most part anyway, but I would like to have a place to explore like what you have shown us here. Looks like fun. Many years ago when I went to Bonneville for Speed Week. I went north of the Salt Lake and drove over some roads that look like those in your pictures. They didn't have the mountains, rather flat, but fun none-the-less.

What is that little station wagon in the first few pics? Looks like a Hillman or a Thames.

That there be a 1960 Rambler wagon

I think you are right. I never would have considered the Rambler I.D. without the photo of an unbent one to compare it with. Thanks.

Re: I took a scenic drive today.

definitely not a rambler, look at the body line that's just below the windows on the mangled car, but near the bottom of the body on the rambler. Grill is shaped different, park lights are different, B pillar slant is wrong, etc.

I don't know what it is, but my guess is it's european.

Oh, interestingly enough, it had a hydraulic clutch assembly.

The camera is just a cheap $200 Kodak, nothing fancy, just a point and shoot (and it shows :-\)

The highest point I was at was around 9,400 feet, where I stopped for lunch. The shots above the mine is around 8,200ft, the pit rim is at ~7,300ft.

It's the mine I work at, and yup they are mining. I'm a geologist not a plumber :P
