  • Powder Coating questions

So it is time for me to get started on this for my daughter. I was thinking of powder coating the body for durability. Would that make it difficult / impossible to paint the "trim" and "grill" on top of the power coat?

    Re: Powder Coating questions

I've painted over powercoat before, so you should be ok.

Give the kid a tetanus shot and forget powdercoating!
It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

            Re: Powder Coating questions

I've often thought of setting up a powder coat facility for home use so I'll be interested in what folks with some info have to offer. Hopefully, someone will have actually DONE this. I've painted over powder coat as well but I'm really not sure how it held up as the item in question went out of my life shortly afterward. I just scuffed and shot.

                Re: Powder Coating questions

as long as you prep the area that you are painting(in this case the grill ,trim) the paint will not care,
power coat is plastic and what do you think 90%(after it dries) of paint is? it'll stick just fine,,

                          Re: Powder Coating questions

I have a Eastwood powdercoating setup I have had and used for 6-7 years. cost about $150.00 to get set up. I can only do stuff that will fit in a old household oven but it works really well. I clean stuff with a glassbead blast cabinet. Powder is inexpensive and after you get the hang of it you can make things look like you really know what you are doing (-: A infared temp gun is a must as you can't trust the oven temp dial.
