  • what was few of the last 2wd amc inline 6

    carb'd used in
    and or slant 6 mopar.
while up at the nascar race was working dad over to just take the fenders and running boards off the 27 dodge a slap a inline 6 /auto and rear and drive it..

need mainstream car models they's be in.. as most are rushed to earth.
I thought a slant with the carb hanging in the wind (no side hood) would be hinda kool if the right aircleaner housing was found/made

Very late '70's and early '80s you could find 2WD Spirits and maybe even Hornets with the 258. Found several when I wat trolling on CL this morning.

        and the concorde.

grandma had the last of them... emissions was insane, onset of mid 80s lunacy..but carbed and reworkable just like anyhting.

I did read they are the rarest.. owners would no doubt leave them alone. may get lucky, good luck.

the slant six is more of.

For the AMC inline 6, they can also be found in Jeep Cherokees. Don't know when they started putting them in Cherokees and if they were carb'ed then or fuel injected.

Slant 6's can be found in all kinds of Dodge's and Plymouths from the 60's through the late 80's...Darts, Volares, Dusters, Dodge vans, Dodge trucks, etc.

My '87 Cherokee has an AMC 4.0L straight six. The door key even says AMC on it, and I know it wasn't the first generation/application of this engine. They make 2wd cherokee's too.

I had an '84 cherokee with the inline 4 that was still carbed, I'm pretty sure they didn't go EFI on the jeeps until 86 or 87 as Randal mentioned.

2wd Cherokees are rare - but they're out there.

Do you want the old 258 or the newer 242? The newer 242 was never offered with a carb but with a 258 head and intake you can put one on there. The 258 was offered in full sized Jeeps and AMC passenger cars through the early 80's. I don't know why you'd be stuck on a 2WD version though since the differences are in the transmission not the engine. The 242 was offered up until the 4dr Wranglers came out, so around 2005/6.

Depending on where you live, sometimes the 2WD Cherokees are in the predominance, especially with a stick.

2wd cherokees , not here, and the reason for looking at 2wd doners is to make like easy ans swap the engine/tranny with yoke and rearend the 27 dodge tranny and rear might not work with a newer set up. without A LOT OF WORK..
i THINK THE LEANING TOWER OF POWER WOULD BE KOOL. up here in rustville both are not gonna be easy finds..
