  • transporting car across boarder- CA ->USA

    Hey guys,

a friend has a chance to trade his satellite for a roadrunner. problem is, RR is in canada, he is in NY.

Has anybody gone through the process, or can point me to who to talk to about whats involved?

Pick a boarder crossing in Vermont, sit low, and hammer down!

I can tell you about the opposite process; when taking a car out of the U.S., you must inform the U.S. border and file the appropriate paperwork. They take two day to complete the paperwork and then allow you to proceed, if everything's clean.

Knowing that, I'd be inclined to find out what the Canadian border requires of you.

I'd read this and then contact a customs broker - Livingston http://www.livingstonintl.com/
Peace Bridge, R.A. Farrow, Dell Will, - there's a million of them.

true, but how many straight trades for a 65 satellite for a 68 roadrunner?

I would definitley recommend talking with a customs broker. Livingston and Peace Bridge are about the best to work with going across either way. After 10+ years of dealing with getting truckloads across the border from both sides I have had the best experiences with both of them. Good luck.
Hauling ass & sucking gas are the best uses for a truck.

I'd also stop by you local R.M.V. to see what paperwork you need to get the car on the road here..
as you want it as you get the car not months later. also I'd have the vin run to see if it's warm.

one of those useless facts (apparently maybe not) I learned in law school was Canada views cars like any other property, thus it's a UCC filing to own a car rather then a title.... thus it'd be wise to use of the recommended customs brokers.... same thing with Mexican cars as well, sometimes it's easy to bring the car across a few pieces at a time rather then in one lot. ;)

you will have to get all paperwork to border crossing 2 or 3 days in advance..prob pay sales tax on its value??

to import into canada its a piece of cake.
