  • When Did The Music Die?

With the Skynyrd post and some thoughts flying all around....

We are all different ages here, and that's great thing. So, we all have different backgrounds and exposures and such.

I hereby propose that music is dead.

It didn't die when Jimi Hendrix died, not with Jim Morrison, not with Janis Joplin, not when Jim Croche died. Not when Hank Williams died, no, it died when Duane Allman died.

    Discuss.

      Music lives, good musicians die.

You don't hear good music anymore because there's a shortage of good musicians due to good musicians dying...

this is true, however, IMO there hasnt been any good mainstream musicians since the mid-90's

but there are still a lot of good newer bands, just not mainstream ones that the kiddos listen too

All this thread will do is encourage Eagle to barrage us with odd 1970s music again. :D

I'd have to agree with Remy

Hell I've got tons of vinyl I still
                  crank up and enjoy

Rock n roll will only die when we stop
                  listening to it

Duane Allman was the last great musician. He was the last one to survive all the drug overdoses of the peroid. To die so young on a motorcycle and to have done so much on stage and in the studio with so many peolpe,...and listen to him play slide. Oh my gosh.

The thing with musicians, you build on each other. The uncanny thing about Hendrix is he had nobody to listen to to build on. He made all of that stuff himself.

Yeah, Hendrix had a pact with the devil. He wasn't of this world, playing that way left-handed on an right-handed guitar (STRUNG RIGHT-HANDED!!!!)......... no, he was really not of this world.

But Duane took guitar lines from the old blues guys and made them better, if that's possible. Yeah he stole. He improved on what was already there. And he died too young, too.

Damn motorcycle. Killed him dead in Macon. The doctors call them "donor cycles."

I have always read they were re-strung to work left handed...?
