Why is it when I know the marching orders for my various projects I get a huge case of the "don't wannas?" The Buick needs to be made perfect, means blowing the car apart and really making it nice.... not hard or expensive work, but a lot of work.
The Camaro, easy enough build a 350, put it in, clean the interior... oh yeah, sand down at least one layer of paint so that I can repaint it....
The Studebaker. Build a few brackets (all of them) to mount the body, motor and accessories to the new frame....

    then the wanna list:
    Kit Cobra with an LS-7
electrify an italian or english sports car (there's too much irony here to fully explain in one post or less).
    Build a fastback Buick

all of this just adds up to a huge case of the "why bothers".... anyone else have the list and the similiar problem or is it just me?

BG I know what you mean, sometimes it's real hard to get motivated. All I can say is go out to the garage and get to work, just plan on something quick and easy to do, which usually for me ends up doing other stuff, because now I'm doing stuff on my car. ;)

I have a large can of motivation sitting on my desk, just waiting for the temps to drop. I'm hoping this is the last week of 105+ degree temps.

I sometimes suffer from the off-idle bog too. The best advice I have is what you've already heard - just go out and start, whether or not you feel like it. For me, doing it leads to wanting to do it. After Maxton the plan is to put a wall in the shop to aid heating and make an area that can be a spray booth with some fine tuning. Then LOTS of shop organizing - WAY overdue. I'm losing big hunks of time to Momcare but that's OK - she's more than worth it. I have about 6 weeks or so before the next FL trip.

            Re: Stalled

I've got a list just about as big.

I just keep chipping away. I stopped looking at the big picture of everything that has to be done and just focus on something each week. Its amazing how, after 6 weeks of a couple of hours here and a couple of hours there and I've got something done. Little victories along the way are quite satisfying. Eventually the payoff occurs, but sometimes its years down the road.

I think the big help for me was to just focus on small tasks that I could complete. A single fender, sound dampner for the spare wheel well, figuring out the wiring on the F-350 window...

I think we all think we can do more at once then we really can. Think smaller. Then get it done.

The blue Mercury has been sitting in the same spot for 3 weeks because I've been too lazy to go take the good battery out of the tan Mercury so I can go wash 1 month of dirt and bird crap off of it. Today I finally got around to it. :

Not stalled, redirected. Working on my masters thesis till around Feb then I get to work on the car again. However parts are still allowed since they are better bought gradually rather than in large amounts all at once.

                      no doubt.

Was reading about a feature car in a magazine 14 months ago.The owner/restorer said,
"You'd better make sure you love what you're doing and the car your building 'cause if you don't
you're never going to finish it.You gotta have that drive."
Cut it out and taped it to my Model A.
