  • Quotes and other ramblings

I am not sure if anyone has commented on this before so being a newbie I will graciously take the hazing for the cause. Ive noticed some very cool and interesting quotes on some of the profiles. I am curious where you heard yours, if you made it up or if you jacked someone else's. Mine "Life is a Two-Way Street; If you can't handle the traffic, Stay in the Garage." is my take on "If you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch.". Basically..its not a slam on ayone like the dogs quote is...rather its a stop you in your tracks wake up call to say HEY...sometimes life sucks and you need a breather to sort it all out.
Your kind and not so kind comments, rants and errant thoughts are more than welcome. And when I finally get back to Michigan; Seth and John...you guys are my heros... you each desreve a case of beer on me. I have read almost every post by you to on the Bu and Ranger. I grew up in Macomb County and let me tell you I miss it A LOT. My last job in MI was at the GM Tech Center. Lived in Kid Rocks neck of the woods.. aka ROMEO/Washington Township from '97-'09.
I have lots of stories to share... one involves 4 guys, a case of beer, an El Camino and cruising up 94 from Mt. Clemens to go cruise in Port Huron..... In late April...YES it was COLD.
    Anyway fire away at will.

    Re: Quotes and other ramblings

I used to have "My car get's 40 rods to the hogs head" which I yanked from Grandpa Simpson ;D Now the one under my avatar I got from a co-worker of mine :D
    Escaped on a technicality.

I made mine up, I don't like pink cars. I just can't get behind a 'Mary Kay' hot rod.

When this site started life as Car Junkie TV, I used to have this quote in my sig.

              Hummm,

Nitro....only form of racing where you can go from zero to hero....I just made that up...really I did!
I could write the things that were told to me, it's along the lines of boots and piss...and my lack of common sense.
I think joining the circus and going fuel racing is as close to joining the army as you can get with out being shot at.

My signature quote is from Theodore Roethke. I think it speaks volumes about the amount of nay-sayers in the world today.

Mine is pulled from The Worlds Fastest Indian. I like it because to the first question that comes out of people mouth's when I tell them I race an Escort is "why the [insert choice expletive here] do you do that?"

                            Tim....thats funny.

Scott Very good one from James. I think at one point or another we can all relate to Rebel Without a cause. James lived his life just as he quoted.

boxer...only someone living in a snowbound state for 6 months in the year can say that.... well unless you count Arild. Then again I dont think the snow slows him down at all... just another version of road surface
Coming from michigan we have two seasons SETH and JOHN and several other can vouch for this....WINTER and Construction..... or is that DEstruction.

A/Fuel..... You should use that as your Sig.

RON ...... Great Quote. Along those lines... my friend back in MI put up this one the other day.... and its the main reason I started this thread... "This Country needs Dirtier fingernails and Cleaner Minds". --- Jason Barrett.... I think I know where he was headed with this one and i will leave that sbuject alone.. but its food for thought

Charles... is that a take on the brewery in Laverne and Shirley... i may be a bit off...but it has that ring to it.... Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated...uh oh I just announced that some of the members here are aged well north of 39

                              Wow
Thanks for the props - but I feel like a slug compared to alot of the project threads around here.

As much of a beating as Michigan has taken since I've been here the second time ('00 to present)
(Went to WMU in kzoo '88- '94) there IS a lot here.

A friend and I were just talking about this at lunch the other day, though we've lost a LOT of businesses, there are stil many great ones hanging on, and within a reasonable commute you can get lots of things a hotrodder needs.

Acme nut and bolt - need a 10/32 grade 8 bolt for a '54 chevy ujoint mount at the front of the torque tube?
Would you like that cad plated or black oxide? hex head, allen head, or 12 point? Seriously - they had it on the shelf, along with a dizzying array of nuts, bolts, washers, threaded rod (also available in stainless - great for making carb studs, air cleaner studs, you name it) bring cash and don't want a receipt? The price just went down! ;D

Woolf tubing - sheesh - if it's metal tubing - they have it or can make it and best of all - they have oops bins full of cool stuff with great prices.

Vanburen steel - need some flat sheetmetal - 'bout that thick, 'bout that long? hm - let me go look behind the sheer -
                              will this do? 'sure - a 12"x 48" 18 gauge piece of steel for $10 - yea - I'll take it!

Franks auto parts - owned and operated by Tom - long story.
Me - I need rear shocks for a '54 chevy....
Tom - well - do you want air shocks, hydraulic shocks, what?
Me - shocks - whatever you got that will work - woodward is tomorrow.
Tom - let me look here in my BOOK - remember books?

I walked out with a pair of monroes for I think $14 a piece - how many autozones would even have a listing for a car like that let alone have a pair on the shelf! Sure they're likely the same from '49 through '74 - but he had them!

                              You catch my drift.

Sorry for going off on a tangent - I just get tired of hearing all the bad news.
There's always something new to learn.
