  • Good News...Good News ..... Roscoe P. Coltrane

    Good News indeed.
After getting laid-off in July from a temp job in Tampa, FL; I am the newbie resident Quick lube Tech at the local Chevy Dealer (Palm Chevrolet) here in Ocala, FL. Pay rate is flat rate...but I should do well. Local school 1/2 mile down the road has an auto tech program so im good to go with getting back to school. Its not Michigan but its what I have been offered and from what the Service Manager tells me he has very little to zero in turnover of techs. That is good to hear becuase it means most if not all the shop is very happy and work gets done. I have lost track of the number of shops I worked at where turnover was high and you had to act grumpy in order to fit in. So for those of you who have CHEVY or GM related questions I can provide insight when you are stumped. Some may even work for KIA as well since we also service KIA.
    Have a great weekend Everyone.

        Congrats on the job!

Flat rate is the best way to work- it separates the wheat from the chaff, the slackers from the go-getters.

have u ever worked flat rate,
              I'm guess'n not..
yes go getters, but as you wait for parts and cr is stuck on lift, because the top techs get more pull at the parts counter.
              you loose,
              I've worked it have u

Thanks guys. Its been awhile, but this isnt something I intend to do for an extended period of time (Yeah havent we all heard that before. Who said that? The voice of someone else's experience). I just need to get back to work andf get back on my feet. I did not work at all in 2009. Truck died while I was working in Tampa and living in Clearwater. I will see how it goes. Hopefully the shop has more hero's than zero's.

Yes. That's how I know its the best way to work.

                  Slackers hate it.

the slackers are not an issue, (and them slack'n gives you more work)
it's the fact that the top techs (the ones there the longest) get their parts as u wait. even if you got there first.
I loved having slackers working in my shop..
it allowed me to tag 90-120 hours a week
