  • Thanks to BangShifter ThreeDoor (Luke)

Long story short, Luke is the man!

He parted out an old 2-ton truck of the same era as Goliath and offered up the Hydrovac brake booster for the cost of shipping it to me. This was perfect because the one on the truck is damaged from when I blow'd up the muffler. The Hydrovac is one of the more unique parts of the truck. I am going to swap one of the tubes off of this one for the sort term, but my "winter" plan is to totally rebuild this piece and install it on the truck.

It came from Idaho and is minto shape! Thanks again Luke!!!!

I may have missed it in another blog, but how did the muffler mess up the one on the truck now ?

Charles if you look at the third photo down of the Hydrovac you can see a couple of hard lines bridged by a piece of rubber hose in a U shape. When the muffler exploded one of the "wings" formed by the blown up muffler came up and broke one of the hard lines on the truck. They are really rusty so it didn't take much to break it. Swapping the good line from the new booster on will get me to the shop and back where the floors are getting done. I'll get this one rebuilt and looking snazzy before bolting it on.

My '80 Chev PU was formerly a Diesel that I converted to BBB power. I kept the Hydroboost and it worked great. I'm wondering if you could convert to that HB unit if parts, etc. prove to be an issue. Hopefully Plan A will work out great.

Read my mind. I was about to say something similar.

I bet you could retrofit a hydroboost system from any GM truck pretty easily. Of course, if you're going for an original look, it's a different ballgame.

You can still get rebuilt boosters,if it doesnt work let Me know and I'll hook you up.

What kind of truck do you have that it goes in? Those units are very common in medium trucks. They are still available here as remans; I put a replace the ones in both my 63 f600 and 72 F600.
