I've raced at that "poop hole" .... Trust me... those guys truly rocked back then....
Older guy came up to me at a car show one time and told me he raced there... and several other dry lakes, before and after the war.... this guy lived less then a block from me and I got to hang out and chat with him quite a bit after our first meeting....
He would drive to the lakes in his model A pick up .... pull the gas carb's and fenders... stick on Alky Carb's and run the event.... you always here stories ... but this guy had black and white pictures.... before and after ( tiny little pictures )... ( he also has passed on and his family left before I could copy that stuff... I was devastated )
Wow, these pictures are incredible and even more so given your personal connection.
My deepest respects go out to the above two men and all veterans. I'm always in awe when I learn about the many folks who managed to serve AND contribute so much more during their civilian life. These men didn't make it home, but what makes these two guys (and many of their contemporaries) so amazing to me is that they were also THE pioneers of rodding.
