Street Car Super Nationals VI "East vs. West Shootout", What Happens in Vegas?
    By Deborah-WFO, November 2010 ;D

Its time again for the biggest, wildest, and most anticipated race of the year, the K&N Filters Street Car Super Nationals VI "East vs. West Shootout", which is set to be held in Las Vegas November 18-21, 2010 presented by Chris Alston?s Chassis Works. Anything can happen in Vegas and the SCSN now in its sixth year has even more fantastic things in store for everyone with more classes, big name players, super bonus payouts, big contingency, and massive media coverage. The SCSN is expected to be the most sought after and highly photographed event of the year. It will be a high-stakes game of speed and anyone?s guess at who will prevail. So what happens in Vegas? Pink Tequila on the Grand Stage, Las Vegas show girls wandering in the pits, and the fastest heads up drag cars in North America all assembled in one place.

Promoter Mel Roth said ?Each year the SCSN has just grown bigger and better. This year we expect to not only have an increase in contenders but a higher caliber of cars competing. A good number of NHRA?s Pro Modified field has already confirmed attendance.? Pat Musi will have his King Kong 5 Nitrous powered 903 cubic inch Stratus with special guest John Hall. Recently confirmed to attend, Brad Personette who just won NHRA?s Las Vegas Nationals in Pro Mod with a 5.859 @ 254.57 mph in his Turbo powered 68 Camaro. Joining from the high rollers of the Pro Modified world are; multi-time world champion Jay Payne in his Blown Fire Ice Mustang, Dennis Radford in his sleek 904 Cubic inch Nitrous powered Duster, and Billy Harper in his wild 864 cubic inch Nitrous Viper. All are capable of hitting the high fives and this year?s Pro Street bump spot race should make for spectacular competition in itself.

The SCSN will see the return of 2008 Pro Street Champion Kirk Wilmes who relentlessly ran away from the competition in his 68 Blown G-Force Firebird. SCSN?s 2009 Pro Street Champion Dan Vogt of Canada, who quietly stole the purse from mid-pack last year is also expected to return along with a number of competitors from North of the border. West Coast contender and last years runner up, Clint Hairston will be looking for the win in his Petronix twin Turbo GTO after engine troubles held him back in the final round last year. Many of last years competitors in fact will be returning and more are rumored to appear. Coby Rabon who ran the SCSN?s first five second pass is rumored to show up with a whole pack contenders. The SCSN is an addictive event. Once attended, people keep coming back whether it?s to compete, just watch the show, or to see what might happen next.

Attending from the SCSN?s parent organization, the Pacific Street Car Association, are returning four time PSCA Champion Ed Thornton in his twin Turbo Corvette, Mike Maggio?s Blown 70 Camaro, Kelly Bluebaugh?s Nitrous Magna Fuel Monte Carlo, John Scialpi?s Blown 57 Bel-Air, Randy Walker?s 1974 Pro Comp Nitrous El Camino and many more. The question still remains though; will the West Coast ever win their hosted race?

Fans will get a Thursday late afternoon preview of the who?s who of fast as Pro Street competitors will be invited to compete for $1,000.00 in fast cash. Daystar has put up funds for both the quickest and fastest Pro Street car on the lot in a one lane, one hit competition against the clock. Daystar joins a whole host of companies putting out the cash to entice the competition at every level.

Outlaw 10.5 will be just as outrageous in the caliber of competition. Dale Moznik, the 2007 and 2009 SCSN Outlaw Champion will be back with 833 cubic inches in his 68 El Camino looking for another win. NMRA Champion Mike Murillo and the original NMCA Champion Nick Scavo will both be in with twin Turbo terror entries. It will undoubtedly be fierce competition of Turbo match up?s with the West Coasts own multi-time Outlaw Champion Doug Sikora, Rick Snavely?s Garrett Turbo Mustang, and Greg Seth Hunter?s Turbo Nova, and many more. Robbie Ward will enter the Outlaw class with the nations fastest and only BBC twin F2 Pro Charger set up in his 69 Camaro., which is said to have a potential of well over 3000 horse power. The big cube giants of the class are Mike Sasina?s 747 Hemi powered Mustang, Scot Slotten?s 832 cubic inch Grand Am, and Kurtis Tamez?s 932 Sonny?s Hemi Cobalt.. Billy Glidden has confirmed attendance and the entire West Coast will be gunning for him looking for a duel with Outlaws legend.

Spectators and racers alike will surely not want to miss the biggest and wildest street car action in the National Radial wars. These cars are getting almost fast enough to make the Pro Street field on a Radial tire. This year?s SCSN event will include 315 Radial back-half and 275 stock suspension classes with competitors from Texas, Canada, California, and the mid-west. 2007 and 2008 SCSN Champion Roger Holder will be returning in XDR/ TT5 in his Nitrous BBC Camaro. The SCSN will see Paul Majors in his wickedly fast BBC Turbo powered Corvette who has run the best of 6.987 @ 210 mph. Dave Bowman who has been very competitive in the 275 radial class on the national level will be in the house touting a best of [email protected] on 275's in the 1/8th mile and 7.57 @ 194 mph in the 1320.

This year SCSN will have a heavy media presentation, be the most photographed event of the year, and be splattered all over the Internet through use of Social Network media, along with traditional print media. Bangshift.com will be on hand doing a real time live feed of the event and 1320Go.com will present live timing. Competition Plus and Drag Racing Online will present photo updates, qualifying results, and race action coverage. Additional information, updates, and interactive social commentary can be found on Facebook, Yellow Bullet, many other Drag Racing forums and Internet news magazines. Most major Drag Racing magazines will be present to include Drag Illustrated, RPM Magazine, Fastest Street Car, Drag Racer Magazine, many freelance writers, and photo journalists. DVD race coverage will be presented by Powerhouse Video. On scene spectators will get a 5 camera angle play by play on a giant screen being imported for the event. Anyone looking for an excellent chance at media coverage for a race team, sponsor, or company promotion should absolutely be in attendance and not miss this media explosion. The event will host a fully packed manufacturer?s mid-way that is scheduled to be much bigger than ever before with available parts and display of the latest in racing technology. Best of all, this year?s announcer will be the infamous Al Tucci and another special appearance will be made by spokes model Jessica Barton.

The SCSN will offer racing competition for everyone from mild to wild with an array of classes from which to choose. In addition to Pro Street, Outlaw 10.5, and Radial, the SCSN will have Wild Street, Hot Street, Limited Street, Street Challenge, Open Comp, Bracket-1, Super Double Index, and Mustang Madness. Additionally a car show has been added for those who wish to bring their cool custom ride and hang out. I will be watching the live stream closely as Tim and Dan Vogt are the local heros ;D I hope they have stepped up their combo because it looks as though qualifying will be tough, much less going rounds : I will have to stop by their shop before they leave to get the skinny on the setup.
